I think I'm the only person who'd never heard of Kelly Brook before she appeared on last year's Chelsea. I only googled her the other day. Nice enough young lady, but I still don't understand why she's there on the telly.
She's a TV presenter turned actress/model, who is a keen gardener. (whether she is actually any good at any of those is a matter of opinion) Whilst not an expert gardener as such, she is at least an actual presenter, so she is probably more qualified than many of the celebs they get on.
In defence of the programme, it gets a lot of prime time coverage during the week, so they presumably need to appeal to a broader audience than the usual GW viewer. If it was an hour and a half a day of pure plants and gardening, it would get a much smaller audience, and no doubt not be on TV at all next year. The celebs are wheeled out to keep the non-gardeners watching. There is a reasonable amount of interest for serious gardeners in the rest of the shows, so I think they strike the balance well.
What I would like to see is maybe one or two of the BBC2 shows, maybe the usual GW slot show, that are much more focussed on the gardening for those with a more serious interest.
Her garden looks fantastic so I'm assuming (always dangerous, I know) that she knows her onions. She is eye candy for sure, but hey, that's not something that should be held against her (Not suggesting it has been btw).
Fair comment about viewing figures but I'd argue that any other genre of programme the beeb undertake (I'm thinking sports, soaps and those damned baking shows) don't dumb down the content with celebs that (usually) appear to have no interest in the subject matter and only in being 'seen'. Obviously Celebrity I Burnt The Toast or Celebrity Strictly Scrambled Eggs would be an exception.
For me, and my opinion aint no more valid than that held by anybody else, gardening/flower shows should be about gardening and flowers and the folks on them should have more knowledge on the subject than I do (which is very little ). I don't think the issue is about celebs in general (although I do fall into the 'sick of the sight of...' bracket) but more about the fact they genuinely didn't seem all that interested in the subject matter.
Great coverage, but it could be that little bit better I reckon.
Many years ago, l was walking round the Malvern Spring show marquee. It was pretty early on, so not very crowded, when my eyes met those of a young man standing on his own, looking thoroughly p☆☆sed off with an expression that would curdle milk. It wasn't until l'd passed him that l realised it was CB. He had only just started on TV so wasn't that well known, but it put me off him for years! To this day l have wondered what caused him to look so fed up.

P.S Probably too many presenters as well!
I also find CB rather appealing.
