@Valley Gardener As the plaque my friend gave me says "Gardening forever, housework whenever" ! I also have one that says "You can touch the dust, but please don't write in it". Anyone would think l didn't know what a duster was for...... I must confess to having done 2 loads of washing though, dried very well in the sun and breeze. Hear what you're saying about the pieris, my money will stay in my purse (this time). Have several hostas in pots already, but thanks for the suggestion @Fran IOM hedgehog is back, caught on camera three times last night, fairly sure it is the same one each time. He or she appears to have brought a mouse friend along, but it didn't go inside the feeding station, probably just following to see what's happening! Have finally got some seeds sown, still a load to do but it's a start. The week was planned, but we already have two things changed, l just go with the flow...
@Fran IOM your garden sounds like it is coming on in leaps and bounds. This time of year everything changes so quickly. It is very well demonstrated in Carol Kleins life in a cottage garden. That might be available on iplayer.
@Valley Gardener I love that plaque! There is something quite magical about it. As for buying plants...I had to pop into Lidl and came out with two large pots in a nice olive green colour. I don't need them, but then I had to visit Morrisons and came out with two more clematis 😀.
@AnniD I think the description of your hedgehog and his little friend the mouse is sweet and having a camera to watch them must be a treat. I have never seen a hedgehog☹️ but one day I will go to a wildlife farm or something. I surely can't go through life without seeing one.
@nultyphilip224 I was just thinking how clever you have been, keeping us all going with photographs through Winter. Now that everything is springing into life I am sure your camera will capture some gems for us all to enjoy this Summer.
Take care all, lots more to write but will keep it for tomorrow.
Another lovely day and no rain. @Purplerain. I will have to look for Carol Klein on iplayer. I like watching her and should pick up a few hints. I would like to think my allotment (garden) is coming along. No one in the family is interested in gardening, except my son who lives abroad, so I don't get any comments as to whether it looks good or otherwise. Looks good to me anyway! I still have a huge pile of topsoil in the middle of the grass area which slowly I am putting on the flower beds. Will take some time. Hopefully when my son next comes over he will notice the difference. I am sure you will find room for your four new plants. @Valley Gardener I am sure your delphiniums will hide the wall. Building a dry stone wall is an art in itself. Your baby geraniums look so neat and tidy. When will you plant them out? That's a beautiful plant in the pot. What is the name of it? And your pond. Does it have any inhabitants? @AnniD So pleased you managed to catch your hedgehog on camera. Unlike cats you would never be able to tell one from another. Wonder if he realises he has a mouse as a stalker. Hope your seeds will produce for you. Maybe one day I shall get around to it. My first attempt with cosmos seeds don't look as though my garden will be full of them this year!
It was a beautiful Spring day with blue sky, sunshine and no wind. Spent nearly two hours weeding and got rid of some plants I didn't like which, yes, does provide me with a lot more space for yet more plants. They were heathers and never did very much. Not sorry to see them go. Saw first two butterflies and one ladybird. No bees as yet but maybe I don't have anything of interest for them until the fuchsia flowers and the verbena. Hopefully tomorrow will be just as good but as you say @AnniD things don't always go to plan.
@Fran IOM,..i really must apologise for missing your post on the 23rd,..i also posted just about at the same time,..so i tend to go back to my last post and respond to posts after mine,..yours was just before mine,..so to your question about the Neem Oil Mix,..which was in that post,..and your recent post ,
1 Tablespoon of Neem Oil. 1 Tablespoon of Liquid Soap ( Washing Up Liquid ) 1 Litre of water ( Tepid ) just to disperse the Neem Oil.
I am spraying once per week on a dry day,..not on a sunny day,..as any liquid on leaves remaining there would act like a Prism and burn leaves.
If your plants are being nibbled now,..then the first spraying will be something the nibblers will not like taste wise,..they probably will not come back but there will be a host of other nibblers still there so you wont notice a big difference until about the second spraying,..to date i have not found one Snail or Slug,..and i searched lol.
You asked about Foxy Molly. Foxy Molly was a rescued dog,..her previous owner developed Asthma and was also bothered by dog hairs so Foxy Molly was put out of the house where she resided since a puppy and became a yard dog,..she didn't settle down to that and so went to the rescue people,..i spotted her up for re homing and asked to have her,..it was agreed,..but when i went to pick her up they were not inclined to let me have her as she had being attacked by a bigger dog in the compound,..the results as seen below.
She had to wear socks to prevent scratching out the stitches.
@AnniD,..Yes you can have your Pieris in a pot and it will thrive,..however in time it will want to be in a bigger pot,..i had mine in a pot for about 12 months but then it was growing out of space in the pot and i had to plant it in the garden.
I envy you the fact you have a camera that you can see your Hedgehog and its little friend,..that's really cute that there is a companion or follower come stalker lol,..one could imagine a Children's Story named ' The Hedgehog and the Field Mouse,..Go Walkabout',..Australian writer of course.
@Purplerain,..i take lots and lots of pictures and i am delighted to have kept you all entertained during Winter when there was few pictures elsewhere to be seen,..thanks for noticing that
So you never came across a Hedgehog,..well here is a reminder of mine,..there are two but only one to be seen in the Very short clips below.
@Valley Gardener,..some lovely images you posted,..beautiful blooms as well to be seen,..i like how healthy your Geraniums are they will put on a great display before you know it,..some buds on mine today,..that is one colourful garden wall plaque,..very Fairy or wood nymph looking,..but fierce as well,..that piece of wood looks like a Ferret when one looks at first.
Sorry your river walk is in a hilly area as the river has always something to show,..fishlife and birdlife,..are there fish in that river?.
Coming into bloom now,..i have this at the front of the house as it got too big for the back garden,..it tends to have some blooms even in Autumn and Winter but its the foliage that's very striking.
Pulmonaria officinalis 'Lungworth'.
Very easy to keep as it needs no attention,..after the plant has finished blooming deadheading of course,..then the leaves grow twice the size and create a lovely contrast.
Hebe.
One of those beautiful days,..warm and sunny up to noon then cloudy with not a breeze to be seen on the water.
I see these big Horses quite often,..very friendly and like to be stroked through the fence,..plus the occasional Carrot goes down well.
Good morning everyone, looks like another lovely day to come, hope it is the same for you. @nultyphilip224 poor old Foxy Molly really went through the wars didn't she ? It's good to see her looking so happy and healthy. I still miss my dog Sherry, she was a mongrel (none of this cockapoo nonsense), loved tennis balls, sleeping, my dad, and my husband (then my fiance). When l got married and moved away, mum and dad looked after her. Dad was heartbroken when she died, she is buried at the bottom of their garden . I do like that pulmonaria and the hebe, have a voucher for Wyevale to use this week as l won't be going in that direction again for a good while. I will see what they have. Like your idea of a children's book ,"The adventures of Hedgehog and Mouse". When l am as successful as J K Rowling, l will mention you at the awards ceremony @Fran IOM@Purplerain hedgehog turned up last night, l looked out just before bedtime, scanned the garden, no sign. Looked down and there he was by the back door ! There is a dish there for the blackbird's food, and he was after any mealworms left behind. He'd have been unlucky as l had swept them up - they are not good for hogs at all. Husband has reported that the dish in the feeding station is clean Apologies for the waffling, hope everyone has a good day
@nultyphilip224 Poor little Foxy,i would think that was almost her demise,it looked dreadful, what a lovely life you've given her now. The plaque on the wall is the green man, very pagan! I found it here under the decking that was,so painted him up! I found the driftwood at the beach, when searching for pebbles to paint. Yes there are fish in the deeper pools Philip. I see you're back on your usual walk across the fields? Fabulous pics of the reflections.
@Fran IOM the pot was tulips, they must be early ones. Geraniums will go out in May,I just have a little porch to protect them for now (oh how I miss my greenhouse, not allowed in new shed!!) Never mind the kitchen worktop looks like a bomb has hit when I use that for potting up,have to go round with the Dettol after!
Too busy for garden today, painting to deliver, shopping in town for presents for the great grandchildren, one of which I haven't met yet, then next Monday I'm off down to Dorset to spend a week with my daughter........She's ordered a budda in stone For me,so I can embrace yet another religion in the garden! Have a lovely day all !
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Promise of another lovely day here. Maybe more cloudy than sunny but as long as it is mild and no rain that's all that matters. @nultyphilip224. Poor, poor Foxy Molly. What she had to go through and so young. I bet now she thinks she has gone to heaven and you are her saviour. It's like one of those cases you see on the RSPCA programme. No apologies necessary re Neem oil. If I had written the instructions down at the time it would have helped. (Now written down!) I'll get that made up and at the ready. Still haven't found any slugs or snails but did find ten empty snail shells all in one place so what that indicates I don't know. Strange. I know what you mean about going to your last post and not expecting unread ones prior to that. I have never seen variegated wallflowers before. Love the ordinary ones which I ordered last year but after months of waiting I had to phone the company and they said they were having problems and refunded me straightaway. Used to be able to get them from the local greengrocer but they haven't had any for a few years now. I like colourful Hebes as well. Hope you remember the carrots when you next go out.
@AnniD. Hope you manage to find plenty you like with you Wyvale voucher. I am sure you will. You are going to get fond of your hedgehog. What do you feed him/her on? We don't seem to get them in gardens here but there are plenty out in the countryside but sadly a lot of them get run over crossing the road at night. We have had many dogs in our time and each with a different lovable personality but it is so upsetting when you lose them. We have never gone out to look for a dog they have always found us. Started the book yet....
