I feel like I’ve dug a tunnel from Northern Ireland to Scotland but I’ve just increased my border from 3ft to 1.2m. Added some log roll and dug put some plants for planting elsewhere.

I was off work all of last last week and aside from digging I have also managed to paint a bedroom with my son and put together a new king size bed.

Still have more digging to do but that will have to wait til next weekend. Too tired and sore now.

Back to work tomorrow for a rest!!

Reshaped my side lawn to make a bigger border and get rid of the most rubbish section of grass, and re-laid the brick edging, then repointed the garden wall while I had the sand & cement and tools out.  Knackered now!  I still need to dig in the mostly-dead turf & loads of compost in the new border area.  The soil under there is even more sandy and pebbly than the rest of the garden - no wonder that section of grass always died back after a couple of weeks without rain.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • Collected and took my 82yo mother to the allotment this morning thinking she would like to have a look and a sit while i moved a few pots into polly, she was having none of it before I could get my boots on she was away.
So I have had the inspection and advice  :) after an hour we were done and it was off to the pub for lunch then a stroll along the beach tea at our favorite stop watching people and the sailing boats.
Just returned from taking her home and I'm kn*****ed  :)

Potted up 60 crocuses to plant out in the spring in spare spaces.
Potted on 10 polyanthus that I've grown from seed.
Can't do much in garden it's been drizzling all the time.

I have been tackling the sloped North facing front of house for the last four hours and it was pretty backbreaking.

I planted some pink Astilbe that I divided a couple of weeks ago, and put in some fritillaria bulbs as I think they will like the dampness. I cut back the ferns, thought about dividing Hosta, but will take Hostafans advice and leave them till Spring.

It's not my favourite place and feels like hard work, but now I can work on the flat South facing back garden without feeling guilty.

  • I have potted up some mini iris, daffodil and grape hyacinth bulbs this morning.  All are attractive to the early bees, so something for them to enjoy as well as adding some welcome colour into the garden when there is little else about.
  • Planted a pot of Autumn crocus at home then to Allotments to "sort out" the strawberry bed, water (no rain for a week here) and pick crops.

Committed euphorbicide on multiple occasions . Spread a thick layer of my own compost which I'm sure is full of 'wildflower' seeds, but at least I know what weeds to expect!
    In London. Keen but lazy.
