    @Valley Gardener. @Lizzie27
    It was heavy rain from the moment the first guest arrived but the party went well despite the cold and rain with the last guest leaving eleven hours after we started - I even got a few compliments on the garden even if at a distance from under glass which meant a lot to me :)

    I know, I know, I was begging for rain but I have spent most of this afternoon on the Allotments cutting grass! The rest of the time was pulling clumps of wheat from the strawberry bed- all germinated from the straw I used to mulch them with.

    Cut lawns today today and some repotting and tidying up  :)
  • Still clearing our field of dock today, better late than never, although I will be glad when this job is done. Next it will be clearing the mares tails - thankfully not covering the whole field but enough to keep us busy for a few days.

    Just turned over the compost (first time for everything)

    <applause>
    <cheering>

    Had shower, but still sweating!
  • Still deadheading, everything is getting a second flush,loads more roses to come,and Ernest Markham has just appeared on the top of the arch! It's a shame the ferns die back in winter as they look glorious now,all the rockery plants have been split and are doing well,they are so worth getting,as they split so well,and you can get loads more!
    The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
  • All the seeds collected have now dried,so today were all enveloped and labelled.Just the small daff bulbs to clean up now!

    Ventured from the safety of B&Q and Homebase into a Proper Garden Centre today, and immediately felt totally inadequate in my gardening.

    I bought some terracotta containers and more dogwoods.

    Niw I have to decide how to combine dying rose, bay, palm, blueberry and lavender to make something that looks nice.
  • I had a brilliant weekend, hope you all did too, weather was beautiful, hope it's like this all month as promised.

    Unpacked two deliveries of plants, heavy in geranium phaeum, but other bits and bobs too. Had fun choosing which phaeums to go where along the shady side of the garden. Potted on a few things as I'm not ready to plant yet. Want to mix it up with some ferns, but I don't know much about them so am musing for now.

    Tied in Golden Gate rose, a worthy foe, only got scratched a few times and completely caught up once. Ha.

    Stole a few more inches of council land for the border I've made on the wrong side of my front fence. Moved 5 nondescript whiteish astrantia in.

    Dug up an osmanthus and put it in a pot, don't know if that's a workable idea but it's a bonny little plant and wasn't really visible in the border.

    Bought two bargain basement plants from B&Q while shopping for compost, 2 salvia (nemorosa types? East Friesland and Sensation rose) for £2 each. Also picked up a bugle and a fancy fern which I've since read doesn't like the cold.
    Wearside, England.
