First ‘real’ downpour for 3 months. The garden and wildlife has sighed in relief. I’ve noticed lots of trees shedding their leaves in panic because of the heat as early as July.
It’s been pouring with rain all day in East Hertfordshire but I couldn’t be happier. I’ve never seen so many birds on my lawn, I assume the rain makes the worms and other insects come to the surface or is it where the ground has softened so the birds can dig down?
Rain- real wet rain at last hooray, it started damp but has got heavier & more persistent as the day has worn on. Wore my jacket for the first time since May have just found that it lets water in at the shoulders so will have to re-proof it. Bought a back up in the sale at the Enfield GC that has become a series of retail outlets. As I was at Capel Manor all day it is only "round the corner" so not out of my way to stop there.
Stayed dry today so my washing has dried. Breeze picking up now and I notice rain will be arriving later. I live on a street with mature Ash trees and they have been shedding leaves for weeks - it was very strange having leaf litter in June/July!
It has been very hot in Dordogne since the last storms the end of July. Up to 37°, not pleasant, bedroom was 29°.
But there were storms in the night, very heavy rain, swooshed into the garage leaving a layer of limestone clay stuff. Garden looked battered this morning, there was hail as well, but it's perking up. Expect it enjoyed the drink. Much cooler today. Relief.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Still no useful rain it's been weeks now. Lots of billowing clouds today but not a drop of rain. I do not now believe any reports or predictions of rain here in South Cheshire
