Thankfully I see this site has options to strip signatures out, or remove images from signatures. I've been to sites where 90% of somebody's post is just their "hilarious" signature. This makes it hard to follow the gist of a discussion as you're constantly scrolling back and forth to find the one or two lines of interest.

Agreed, and I have made constructive suggestions earlier on this thread, which will probably not be acted on. People may not care, but effectively that attitude means they're also not concerned about something like this putting people off to the point where the forum is less attractive, or less usable. There are other forums, and some very good groups on FB, which are in competition, and some people will go elsewhere.
From a business point of view, that also means we're looking at adverts elsewhere rather than on this GW site, so I think it would be a mistake to let signatures get out of hand.
I've stripped out signatures, but the majority of people viewing these forums will be more casual visitors who will not even be logged in. I can see exactly the problem you're describing, and some people will go elsewhere. I realise our comments won't be popular with some people, because a clique of prolific posters will in some cases be the worst offenders.
Personally, I think a simple signature, for example a link to someone's personal blog, is a very good idea. But we won't see those because of the self-indulgence of people having signatures that have nothing to do with gardening. Nothing is so witty or profound that it needs to be repeated tens of thousands of times in the signature of a prolific poster.
ok. so you don't like signatures, remove them. Some people do, so why should you decide that they should not have them. Why is it self indulgent? Some of us like to chat about all sorts of stuff, which is nothing to do with gardening, and have been doing it happily on this site for a few years, but you seem to think that because it is nothing to do with gardening, we should stop.

Why is it that the signatures do not get displayed consistently at the bottom of the posts?
