I thought you might be heading off for a cure!! Pdoc have you got a death wish cos I'm with WW? Think about Moira! Not to mention landing colleagues already in danger and high stress with someone else to worry about instead of a full-bodied helper.
Better to help with funding in your current state.

Punkdoc. I hope you are on the train back to Sheffield. Your poor wife must be at her wits end. Bad enough that you go to a war zone when you are fit and healthy. I am sure that if someone in your condition asked if you could go on holiday to a nice warm 5 star resort in Europe, you would be denied medical insurance and told to behave yourself. Only last week you were not fit to garden.
Wow, not sure I was expecting quite that level of criticism.
I am coming home, well I will be if the roads are clear.
I am mightily relieved.
So why the hell was I planning on going then?
Yes I am not well and yes it does scare me, but I feel that I have a duty to use my particular skills, which although I say so myself are fairly rare, in that not only did I spend my whole career dealing with severe trauma, but am one of the few western medics who have some experience of dealing with the victims of Chlorine and Sarin.
Moira does get very upset and I hate that, but from very early on in our relationship she knew that this was what I did, as I regularly used to take leave from the NHS, to visit conflict areas.
I know that I do not need to explain to you why I do this, but I regard some of you as friends and therefore want to explain.
Hope I will be welcome back.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Of course you're welcome Pdoc ............ I'm sure you're quite able to assess risk and make decisions for yourself ...... as long as your own condition isn't increasing problems for others giving aid then it's up to you and Moira what you do. But you can't blame us for worrying ... as you say, you're our friend ((hugs)).
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Sorry if it came over as criticism Pdoc! It was meant as concern. I do empathise but I was doing so from a different perspective. As a wife of someone that has serious health issues, worrying is my default setting, plus I get the worry gene from Doves side of the family handed down to me too!
Pdoc - Someone has to be objective here and you clearly aren't.
We criticise because we worry. We admire what you do and why but sometimes the need to help has to take second place to your need to care for yourself and consider your loved ones. Far better to concentrate on getting yourself well and maybe, just maybe, you'll be fit enough to go in future. Bad enough worrying Moira when you're fit. Going in your current state is just cruel.
Meanwhile, could you not pass on some of your expertise to doctors planning to go - tell them what to look for and how to deal with it? It would make them better prepared and maybe answer your need to help.

Punkdoc, my admiration for you is immense. Sorry it didn’t work out this time, but maybe it was meant to be. Hopefully next time you’ll be fitter and things settle a bit in THAT area.
Thank you Hazel! lovely to see you! I hope your keeping warm! Really chuffed! Going to relax and slob under a blanket with a movie this afternoon, may have had time off work but haven't enjoyed it, time to start!!! x

You stay well, Punkdoc, and all those you care for at home and abroad.
I more than admire you and pray that your hopes and wishes may come true.
If we're not true to ourselves, what are we?
