I've just been out to top up the bird feeders and break the ice on the bird baths. They're frozen solid so I've stood a pan of boiling water on them . Way too cold to work out in that.
Hosta ... you're the second person I know who met Bob Marley
The blue patches of sky have disappeared and the sky is heavy and overcast ... the fine flurries of sow are a little more insistent and the tempierature has dropped noticeably ... OH has de-iced the birdbaths and made sure that part of the pond is ice free ... but for how long?

Joan Armourplating was our friends next door neighbour here in Haslemere. It used to be a bit of a hotspot for musicians round here - Chrissie Hind, Dave Stewart who used to play in the local pub.
Great pictures Dacha, and thanks for the u tube post. That style of music reminds me of one of my favourites Antonio Forcione if you have ever seen him play "touch wood" you will understand what they mean when they say he plays the whole guitar.
Been busy so haven't listened to the music. Went to fetch two water butts we'd ordered but they have been delayed 3 weeks. Nothing daunted, we bought 10 panels of timber surround for raised beds so I can separate the magnolia from the grass and build up fertility for its roots with 6 and use the remaining 4 for the Japanese quince which is flowering valiantly despite the Beast. I also picked up a dicentra and some more dahlias which are now tucked up in the annex. Light and bright but unheated.
On the way home we went to buy bird food and found they were selling 10cm pots of white hellebores for 2€99 so the best 3 leapt in the trolley and then OH suggested I might like another Japanese maple. Been looking for a purple one so an atropurpureum leapt in along with an Orange Dream. They'll add to my little shaded woodland glade in pots on the terrace, once things warm up.
Maybe, given the season and temptations we need a confessions thread.
I fail to understand why, after 35 years in Italy, that old veteran thinks he has any right to influence UK voting results. In Belgium I exercised my rights to vote in local and EU elections but was denied parliamentary voting (Flemish lot refused to ratify that bit of EU law) so would have been pleased to keep my UK vote but it would have been a luxury, not a right. Votes should go with taxation and benefits.
Love your squirrel pics DL. We have reds here but not, so far, in our garden. Need more trees for that. Working on it.
Hosta and everyone else - stay tucked up. It is far too cold out there.

Possibly the chap in Italy pays UK tax on his pension? No taxation without representation and all that ... it's caused a lot of trouble in the past
We've just had another lot of snow ....... the fine polystyrene ball type of stuff ... the sky looks full of it ... between the snow showers the birds flock to the feeders and tuck in .....

hosta ...wow ..two of my heroes.....
as my fellow Irishman, Oscar, said .....
Music is the art which is most nigh to tears and memories
Dacha, I laid turf for Joan. She was one of the loveliest , simple, down to earth people I've ever met.
And if Oscar said it, it must be true.
Right, the island is going to have to wait.

I wonder how warm the hot tunnel is.
I just threw some seeds on the snow Hosta .....I can't believe the bigger bullfinches are intimidated by the smaller green guys

A very successful shopping trip Obelixx.
Grey skies with a tinge of blue but no snow expected here until Wednesday or Thursday
