Evening. Thanks for update re photo issue Dove - I only recently found out about the joys of warm cookies from pizza places so recommend those!

Day off today so did some pottering outside - mainly involving doing a patch repair on pond. Had some amazing sticky butyl tape stuff for repairing ponds so hope it works!

    Hope everyone doing ok.

    Lizzie27 says:

Um, small self-employed businesses don't pay Corporation Tax, only Limited Companies do. Most self-employed people are taxed on their income, according to how much they earn.

I know, because I was one, once.

    See original post

Most freelance companies, even very small ones, chose to operate as a Limited companies because potential clients and agencies will not do business with sole traders.

I know because I am one now

We are now in Norfolk with full tummies after a good meal in a local pub.

I think death duty taxes are a dreadful idea. You work and save all your life to have something for your retirement and to leave your children, then you die and the Government takes a load of it when it has already been taxed. In France you can't leave much at all to anyone who isn't a blood relation, not even a step child without the Government taking 60% of it. But they have a social tax which helps pay for the health service, social security and family allowance, which I think is fairer, even though I have to pay it.

    41p       "               43431 - 150000

    Problem is nobody likes taxes.

We want a good HHS, social care etc., but we don't want to pay anymore for it.

No, but taxation is inevitable so it needs to be fair and seen to be fair with everyone contributing towards social care and healthcare and police and fire services.   If taxation levies were more explicit with people seeing what goes to the NHS and what goes to SS and what goes to security they'd maybe be happier about it but also more demanding of efficient services as well as being more careful about they use them.

  • That's interesting, Joyce.  Might take a bit of head-scratching to work out, though I suppose it should be fairer.

Mum had a happy day, and enjoyed being fed birthday cake.  She was talking excitedly for much of the time, almost totally incomprehensibly, but happiness is the important thing.  image

Liri, it's comforting for you to see your mum happy.

The tax system seems to be broadly acceptable to most people who understand the need for more money for education and the Health Service.
