  • Hello all.

The ice is finally going from our road, now that we have temperatures reaching the dizzy heights of 4C.  Not before time...  OH is confined to barracks until he can get up the road without danger of falling, but now I've bought him some new wide-opening shoes with velcro fastening (hideous but essential), he can at least wear, with comfort, something other than slippers, when he finally makes his escape.  image

I've never thought about any sort of upside-down cake other than pineapple... you've given me ideas, Pat and Dove!  Thank you.  I think an upside-down cake might well appeal to the granddaughters when they visit after Christmas.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Thanks Pat ... got that saved ... love squash with sage image

This is the recipe for the Stone Fruit Yoghurt cake   https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2009/sep/26/how-to-bake-stone-fruit-yogurt-cake

I like it with nectarines or peaches, but I've made it with plums too, and that was lovely.  I've found a pic of one I made a while back image

Glad OH is so much improved Liri ... how's your finger now?

Oh, but the pic won't post image

  • That looks gorgeous, Dove!  image

Thanks for the recipe too; I can see it making a gorgeous dessert with garden plums (assuming we get any next year).

The finger is very much improved thanks.  Hardly any pain, just a little bruising remaining.  However, it still locks when I'm preparing veg... not sure if I'm just being impatient, and there is actually more swelling to disappear first... would rather not have to have it operated on, but hey ho!

I've saved that recipe too as we hope to have nectarines and apricots this year and there are Mirabelles already - if we get any before the birds.  Bit sweet for me anyway.  Like more tartness for cooking.

Multi-tasking like mad here.   One bowl full of butter and sugar softening for the Creole cake, a pan full of fruit slurping in tea and butter and spiced sugar for a Borrowdale tea bread to take to patchwork tomorrow and Xmas decs all over the place.  Considering how carefully we cleaned beforehand, the place looks like a bomb site.

There's also a curtain pole waiting to be put up in the kitchen and a curtain waiting for holes for eyelets and somewhere in all that dinner to cook.   Easy lamb chops as the oven will be busy with cake.

Glad your finger's improving Liri.   I managed to prang a brand new pair of posh tights on the fake buckle velcro fastening of my shoes last night.  Not impressed.   Why put velcro on dress shoes anyway?  Outdoors yes.   Easy.  Hope your OH likes his.

  • Thanks, Obelixx.  OH likes the fact the new shoes don't hurt... they are definitely not beautiful though!  Re velcro:  useful stuff, but yes, it can ruin fabrics it comes into contact with.  My waterproof coats have velcro closures, including on the inside pockets; I've had to remove them, and replace with snap fasteners, because they were rubbing and creating bobbly places on my jumpers etc.

Yes, Dove - spuds in their jackets.  Nicer anyway.  image

    So.

Do I go to the pain management team and hope we can get something in place in time (long term pain condition so this isn't the first time) so that I can spend Christmas "comfortable" if this flare up continues

    OR

Do I try and manage and see if things settle down over the next few days so that I DON'T HAVE TO SPEND CHRISTMAS WITH HIS FAMILY SOBER.

I mean the amount of alcohol that will be floating around next week will ensure I wont feel pain (that's just from the fumes alone), but it also numbs the mind so I don't have to cope with the tantrums as much.

Ob: I once laddered my tights climbing out of the truck to go to a uber posh do. Ever since I've made such to keep a spare pair in my clutch bag: the trick seems to be to keep a spare pair with you as I've never done it since!

I keep a spare pair of tights in the car, which I've never needed.

OH is home, but his plane was nearly an hour late. I listened to Gardeners' Question Time in the airport car park.
I enjoyed lunch with Son 2's family. Grandsons are so cute.

Shall watch the Apprentice final tonight.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
