    Hello folks.

Good news from here is that OH is no longer in need of IV antibiotics; he has a further 7 days on the oral sort, and hopefully just one more hospital visit, but is improving every day.  He even stood long enough to make himself a cup of coffee while I was out this morning.  image

Chicky, I think you should have stayed on a bit longer at the cricket.  You were clearly a very good influence...  image  ...hope for safe travelling for you and for Hosta.

Pdoc - as the song says, you have to "accentuate the positive".  Good luck.

Lyn - sounds like a lot for you and yours to deal with in a short time.  Well done for deciding to enjoy each day as it comes.

Such behaviour is beyond understanding Dove but it seems to me that in certain circles life is increasingly cheap and undervalued from cradle to grave.

Honestly couldn't give a toss about the cricket but that has to be the best display of petunias I've seen in a long time.  Hope the trip home goes well Chicky.   Just the jet lag to deal with.........    At least you won't have that problem Hosta.  Just the cold.

Have had a quiet pottering sort of morning which included making a whole new batch of "socks" for Cosmos.   The latest are made form cotton shirts OH binned when he retired.  Lots of textured weave plain shirts and some blue stripes but all fine cotton.   Cosmos now has fetching stripey socks to wear.

Turner prize day today.  Very telling comment from a jury of 12 local children taken in to the exhibits in Hull by the Beeb - "It must be modern art cos you can't see what it is".

Dove, that just turns me cold, inhuman

Punk, keep as busy as you can. When we dwell on things they become catastrophic. I think your insurance claim may keep you busy? Once you have the final decision from the company and have followed their complaints route you can go to the ombusman but not until then. Good luck

Lyn hugs, that feels so much to carry. I hope you have a supporter, you need one too

Obelixx you may have stumbled in a gap in the market with your pussy socks!

holly man been, he gave us £100! Oh gave him 25 back as he has our ed the trees so well!

we are off to spend the money on Christmas trees from the market!

Thanks Obe, you know that feeling when you open your eyes and wonder what the day will bring?

got to stay postitive though. Just heard of a neighbouring farmer, had a bad leg doctor palming him off with all sorts as they do, it was a clot, hit his lung, he’s very ill, lucky it missed  his heart, or his brain.

I do love the petunia Christmas tree, never thought about trialing them upwards, what a good idea,

terrible news Dove, I expect they will get a tap on the wrist and have their better nature appealed too.

Love the children’s take on modern art, out of the mouths of babes......

was it a pile of bean cans, someone put a canvas on the floor and walked over with different coloured paints or a rock with a hole in the middle. I never understand it either. But then I can be a miserable old bat sometimes ?

  • The Turner Prize this year has a large proportion of figurative paintings and everything is comprehensible, even to those who've never been interested in contemporary art ... I sometimes (often) despair at the way the media often pander to the prejudiced. Another viewpoint ...   http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-41389009

As for violence ... children learn what they see and experience ... I doubt the perpetrators of this horrible crime had a happy well-balanced childhood ... and I don't expect their children will be any different to their own parents.  Why do governments and local authorities think they can save money by cutting back on social services and support for parents who, for one reason or another, are struggling ???

Apparently the children selected something with lots of green foliage Dove.  Quite hopeful given the general disconnect with nature in many schools and neighbourhoods.

I quite agree about social services but also think it's dreadful to see cuts in education budgets too.   Invest in people from the moment they're born - good health, good socialisation, good education provided by good service and well qualified people in decent buildings - and you will more than halve most of the problems facing society today.  Simples, but long term thinking so no good for your average politician.

The tilers have just arrived.  Only 2 hours later than we hoped but at least they're here.

Sad about the bad news here and the old man, but glad about Liri's OH.

We've just had a lovely day in Cambridge, took the Park and Ride - which wasn't as good as the Park and Ride to Norwich. The ticket machines were complicated and the loos were shut, but we got there. Went to a wonderful music shop. OH plays the piano a lot when we are in France and he really misses it when we are at the cottage so he decided to buy a keyboard. Found just what he wanted and I paid some of it for his birthday present in February.

We had lunch in Côte as we'd liked the one in Norwich. The set menu is really good value.

In the afternoon we went to the Fitzwilliam Museum and wandered around the art gallery part. There was a Degas exhibition on, mostly drawings.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
