We have had enough rain overnight to leave puddles up the road!   Needless to say the house is now bathed in sunshine while I watch heavy grey clouds drift by just north of us.   Need to think about lunch and how many veggies to cook for our cod dinner tonight.   Lots of beetroot, chard, broccoli, Savoy and Romanesco in the garden plus pumpkins picked earlier and ripening in the sun on the front doorstep.

Liri - hope the haircut goes well and the trip to your island.

Pat - Lovely bird but very muted colours for Oz.

Busy - is the diet for comfort or Xmas or health?  I need to go on one too after the recent carbs fest.

Dove - that breakfast looks good.  I bought some Spanish black pud yesterday but we have no bacon.   I have been good and just had an apple..........

Now to go and see what OH has been up to in the potager in my absence.   Shifting some wood chips at last I hope.

Greetings to everyone, whatever you're doing.  Hope it's going well.

The diet is for comfort and health. I had always been around 9 stone before first OH died then I went down to 8 stone after he died Nov. 98. Back up to 9 stone when I got over the misery, then I met 2nd OH. Been wined and dined and he's very appreciative of good food. Went up to over 11 stone. Had to buy new clothes, lost energy (or is that just getting older!), tummy not comfy. Have now lost 10lbs and feel better but still some to go. When we go to Norfolk I put on weight, love real ale and good pub meals.

Liri - last minute jobs are on the go image  Christmas puddings steaming, piles of bits and pieces appearing everywhereimage  Had hoped to get out and plant my tulips today, but the weather is dreary, so might leave that job for tomorrow.

Christmas pudding stirring was a family affair as usual - two of us in person, and two via facetime .....don’t want to let any ”wish” opportunities go to wasteimage

My Dad to used to call my Mum a Norfolk Dumpling (she was pretty slim image) , whilst we were always Hampshire Hogs.  He was just a scouser....didn’t seem to have any Lancashire monikas we could retort with.

Hope you have a lovely unwind in your island idyll Liri, and that you enjoy your time in Norfolk Lizzie - sounds like lots of trips coming up.

Carry on sleeping Pdoc ???.....best way to heal.  ((Hugs)) to you and Pauline, and anyone else who needs one

  • Thanks Lyn - it does appear to be cheaper on line, but you have to pay delivery.  Must do the sums.

I'm afraid I bought my Christmas pud, an 18-month matured one from Lidl.  image  Didn't really get myself organised to make one before my jaunt... though I've got most of the Ch....mas presents sorted, I think.

Thanks for all the good wishes for my time in Scotland.  I'm really looking forward to it!  But feeling guilty at leaving OH, so I'm busy cooking for the freezer at the moment.  Don't want him living on pies and all-day breakfasts...  image

OH is the only one who eats Xmas pud around here so he gets a bought one.  Possum and I will have sticky toffee puds if we get that far after starters and mains.  Turkey free zone too.

Here is the cheats' topiary Scottie dog at the Guggenheim in Bilbao.  All done with a frame and pansies and I noticed loads of butterflies flitting as well as small birds apparently nesting in it up under his chin.

Have you looked on Pets at Home, that’s where I buy mine, they don’t stock it on the shelves but will get it for free collection at the local shop.

Have you checked the actual ingredients, sometimes you can get the same formula from a different maker.

Do love Christmas Puddings with Brandy butter or Custard image

  • Thanks Lyn - it's early days yet.  The cat has only just started eating properly, so I'm sticking to the vet recommended food for a bit.  But you're right, the same formula may be available cheaper elsewhere, so I'll have a look next month, when I get back home... at the moment it's just a relief to have her behaving normally again.  image

Got a few things done outside today in between the heavy showers. Mainly tidying. Got a bit too cold though,. Brisk wind, and never got above 6 degrees. Nice to see a bit of sun though.

Love Christmas pud, but with cream. Don't make them any more, ust buy a couple of mini ones for me and eldest.

Better get to bed. Up early to take daughter to work, and then see where I'm walking.
