We liked bavette with a shallot sauce in Belgium too but I've found it expensive to buy here recently, along with pork cheeks and all sorts of other supposedly cheap cuts that have become fashionable in restaurants.

Pdoc - we enjoy quality rather than quantity and try to find the not too bad films on offer tho with Possum home finding a consensus isn't always easy and she doesn't drink anyway.   It can be a very cosy way to spend Xmas between greeting neighbours and chatting to family on  the phone and walkies.

I can't think why anyone wants to grow big celeriac.  Like turnips and beetroot and kohl rabi it's best when not too big - more juicy and more flavour.  They do like a decent amount of water tho.   Wonderful soups, cooked as a gratin or shredded raw and eaten with mayonnaise on its own or in cole slaw.

Been to patchwork group today and 90% of them were still crocheting last week's project - a Japanese pan or shower scrub with spiky yarn.  Why?  I and a couple of others got on with Xmas decs and I have found a lovely new toy which is on my wishlist.   Cuts felt and fabric shapes with precision.  Not a mention of Harry's news.

We’ve been thinking that we might give the Wallaby a name. I suggested “flowers”,Hubby suggested “Petal”. I think it will be Petal.image

thanks for suggestions re growing Celeriac. I will be looking for seeds in Canberra on Thursday. Crossed fingers.

The felt cutter sounds like a good Christmas present. I’ve still got lots of gadgets from patchwork, cross stitch, and scrapbooking. I’m trying to get back into painting, but there are so many other distractions, the days aren’t long enough.

I drove my new car to town yesterday for the first time. I haven’t been able to force myself to drive it. I really loved my old Mazda, but this new thing has so many fancy gadgets, it puts me off. One thing that is annoying is that I can’t see where the front of the car is, so is difficult for parking. The other bit is the beeping when I’m near something. Also it doesn’t trust me to reverse without a video of where it thinks I should be. Bah!

Pat: give it time you'll be surprised how you get used to it. One thing though- keep the sensors clean! (Bits in the bumper that tell it when to beep). It would infuriate me when his lordships car would need incessantly while reversing through an empty street because the sensors were dirty.

Nothing like laying in bed with a cup of tea for a relaxing start to the...

... whose dog bum has just left stainage on the nice freshly laundered bedsheets.

Looks like I'll be doing more ironing tonight then! (Partly due to liking ironed bedsheets, partly due to no tumble dryer so everything that can is joined to make sure it's dry).

I like the beeps on my car - helps improve my appalling parking skills image

Petal sounds perfect for your wallaby Pat image.  Hot here too !

Glad Lizzie and Dove had a good catchup - got a soft spot for Norwich myself.

Thanks for the Olgas tips Obxx - sadly we have run out of evenings - but did our own star gazing session last night - most disorienting to find poor old Orion upside downimage.  We loved the Manley ferry trip though.

LilyP - flies have not bothered us as I have been rocking this look .....rather fetching, I’m sure you’ll agree

Monrign all/afties  Pat - and chicky!

I think the  young people say - 'you're rocking that look'.....or something image

Were you not tempted to have a wee scramble up that?

Sounds like a good plan doc. Mine are going to their Dad's on the day, so I'll be doing something similar, albeit without the bevvy  image

Thanks for the explanation Dove and BL. Not a term I've heard here. Braising or stewing steak would be the closest terms I suppose.

Off to get ready - think there's a wee touch of frost again so I'm glad I covered the car.

Have a good day everyone - stay warm or cosy, depending on your position  image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Morning all.

Good look chicky! Your whirlwind tour is looking fab!

Pat I don't think I could cope with the beeping either. I can park on a sixpence so I would feel vaguely insulted at my car feeling the need to tell me where I am. How rude! image Your paintings are gorgeous...I'd buy 'em!

Freezin' here too FG. If I'm feeling it, everyone else must be close to hypothermia!

Enjoy your Tuesday in the hot spots and the cold spots.

    Morning all.

Hubby improved . Many thanks for the kind wishes. He thinks it's the Malarone.

I was juts dropping off last night when it heard it ...bbzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz  a flippin Mozzy in the room. That was it. Awake for about 2 hours thereafter.

We're walking along the beach to meet our English friends here on holiday. No consensus on how long it will take. " take a taxi" seems to be the mantra whenever you ask " How far is "X" from here?"

Punkdoc, nice to see  you're making plans for the alternative christmas. I'll be in the garden / polytunnel all day as usual. I think Hubby is planning a Tagine so there will be no rush for me to get in early.

Hot and sunny yesterday. I met a new local friend at his shop yesterday lunchtime , but he declined our suggestion of a walk " it's too hot he said", tee hee. Lightweight.

    Devon.

Quality not quantity Pdoc ... Definitely the way to go. image  When I first acquired OH he thought he didn't like red wine ... but he was still a student when I got him ... When I introduced him to some good stuff he discovered that it was really very nice image

One of the best Christmases we've ever had was a couple of years ago when, for one reason and another there was just the two of us. We had a grilled lobster each, delicious cheese and some superb fruit, good books to read, favourite music to play, films to watch ... perfect image
