Lyn, that would suit me fine to live there if the sea was just over the hillimage

I think many of us ignore what's on our doorstep unless we are showing visitors round.

I think that's true Lyn. You don't always appreciate, or visit, what's on your doorstep. Lovely pic image

I had a friend who had lived in London for donkey's years, yet, when she came back to visit her parents, she made a point of visiting the Burrell Collection which had been open for some time. I was ashamed to admit I hadn't been. I remedied that soon after image

Hill forecast isn't looking good all week Joyce. Then heavy rain, and thunder and lightning at the weekend. Sod's Law eh? image

Wardrobe in car, pots moved off the path, and fridgefreezer moved so that they can get boxes round and through the doors. Bet they don't come till half twelve now!

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

It’s rented out for holiday let now if you’re interested. Not a place I would like to live, the winds from the North Atlantic can be very cold and rough.

Right ... that's the grass cut front and back image  ... it was damper than I thought so it was more like silage making than grass cutting, but at least I won't have to put long boots on to take the peelings to the compost bin image It's harder going when the grass is wet ... I need a sit down and a image

I haven't done the edges ... it'll just have to look 'relaxed and casual'.

The other thing you could try is an electric fence. You would need to screw in insulators to the top of the posts, run electric fencing wire through it and attach to a small energiser. Here is a link to give you an idea of what you would need (Probably not the electric fencing stakes.)  www.molevalleyfarmers.com/mvf/storeproducts/gallagher-b10-garden-and-fencing-kit   image

Thanks for this. Another neighbour of theirs has suggested the same he was a farmer & says he has spare but its waiting on him. They think the horse in particular is bored as it chews & pulls at the rail fencing at the side of the field as well as eating parts  of the hedge. It seems to have a go at anything including brambles.

  • Lyn- the first time I did any of the London tourist sites was when I had to show a cousin from Scotland round. I think we are all the same when it's on your doorstep you think I can always do that & in the end there is a danger that you never "quite get round to it".

I am off to finish pruning the Bramley Apple I started yesterday- Too early for winter pruning? this was supposed to be the Summer pruning!!!

We live 20kms from the sea and have seen it quite a bit this summer with having visitors in May and June and then Possum all July and August and into September.   Mostly go for lunch or a stroll but I did actually spend one pm just flopped on a rug while t'other pair did daft things like going in the water!

Took my scientists for a stroll along the beaches and they loved it.  The Belgian coast is a mere 60kms long and very "developed" but our bit is not so much and has views along the coast to La Rochelle and across to Ile de Ré so they were thrilled.

I have been to the dentist this morning.  More filling replacement.  Such fun and more to come in November.....    I've been bitten again so itchy bits in the night and Cosmos was very playful so I am functioning on caffeine.   Went to the SM afterwards and they now have their autumn wine displays all geared up and are working on the Xmas displays behind screens.  Thence to a new, to me, garden centre where I found penstemons reduced and bought 2 to take cuttings plus some hardy cyclamen for my winter pots and some spring bulbs to grow thru them.

Horses can be stupid about what they eat.  I planted out a lovely Korean Abies after it had served as our Xmas tree one year.  They stretched their necks and ate all down one side so it is now a lop-sided, crown lifted tree.   Did the same to an oak I planted too close to their paddock but it has recovered well.

I hope your aches and pains are better today DL and Busy.  Feet and bruised ribs can hurt for ages so do be careful.    Good luck with the new wardrobe FG.    Greetings to all not mentioned.  Hope you all have a good day.   Downhill to the weekend now, honest.

Oh well - wardrobe here. Now I'll have to put the b***er together. Clothes everywhere  image

Got on with a bit more of the path edging but will need some more mortar to do the gaps so that it's nice and neat and  firm. Raining again so I've had to come in. image

I'm not really a 'sea' person, but I'm totally in awe of it and thoroughly enjoyed my little trip last month, even though I was there because I couldn't get a hill. Stunning, and memorable. image

Good luck with the fencing Iain. Electric fencing is the answer to a lot of issues with stock  image

My mother loved the sea and sailing, but I like the countryside and horses. We are about 3 hours from a beach here in mid Dordogne.

My elderly mare eats wooden fencing and hedges. That's why I have electric fencing and suggested it to Iain. Only thing that works.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
