I've just realised why I couldn't read with the reading glasses on the shelf. They had a thin plastic film to protect the lenses.

I couldn't see the film , as I didn't have my glasses on.

  • I've had some of those Daffs Hosta. The bulbs look really good quality for the priceimage

Linda, I was very impressed with the quality and the price. Not a huge selection, but I'm more than happy with them.

I stopped in wyevale first and they had masses but pricier.

    Example. Wyevale 30 tete a tete for £4. B&M 25 for £1.99.

B&M 50 drumstick allium for 99p. What's not to love?

  • A 'no-brainer' Hosta! I also had a box of Honeybells from Sainsburys that look quite nice. Eight bulbs for £2.50. I always look at the local shops before I buy from a Garden Centre-trouble is...I still spend as much money 'cos I just buy moreimage

  • Getting a bit nearer to normality now ... although I don't s'pose we'll ever actually achieve that  image

Our holiday was brilliant ... starting off with a stopover at the best little B&B in Devon   where we were treated like royalty, fed & watered and given a guided tour of the estate image

Once in Cornwall we had one wettish day and after that just the occasional spell of dampness ... not enough to stop us doing the things we wanted to, and the rest of time was warm and sunny ... lots of lazing on the beach was done along with the compulsory intake of icecream and pastys and visiting of galleries and purchasing of art in order to keep the local economy afloat image

My knee didn't enjoy the steep hills, but a kind local noticed me limping and showed us a short cut with a much more gentle slope behind her house and told us we should use it to get to and from our apartment image That, and the purchase of a sturdy hazel stick made all the difference ... now it's almost back to normal. image

It was lovely to meet up for a drink with Topbird and her Lovely OH who were also holidaying at St Ives last week ... hope they've had a good journey back to East Anglia too ... we'll have to get together again soon - perhaps a garden with some good autumn colour image

We also met up with  some Cornish friends and had a very good lunch with them at the café at Godrevy and was given a beautiful raku pot made by one of them image  I think some of you met her on one of our Snowdrop Walks when she happened to be up in this part of the world.

On the way home we spent a couple of nights in a hotel near Whipsnade and visited the zoo (thanks Phillippa image) ... it's a very long time since I've been there and OH had never been ... it is great to see the animals in such spacious surroundings and to read about the successful breeding programmes which in some cases have enabled previously endangered species to be re-established in the wild. Not a sign of the repetitive behaviours indicating stressed animals which used to be a feature of so many zoos ... and Oh, the magnificence of those rhinos.  image

A friend called the other day to ask if I wanted some plant pots she was getting rid of.

She didn't tell me they had strawberries in them.

I feel  a bit bad that I have no need of them, but she was going to dump them anyway.image

They'll be home to agapanthus next year.

I'm so glad you had a good holiday Dove.

psst, don't tell everyone about the B&B. imageimage It's very exclusive don't you know?

Can we have a peak at the art you bought? I'd love to see what caught your fancy as I know how discerning you both are.

  • Hosta image  It's a beautiful dish that I bought at the Leach  Pottery .... quite a large one, made by the potter Joanna Wason (former assistant to Janet Leach)

I'm very chuffed indeed with it ... hold on and I'll take a pic ...
