Plank cutting and shuffling done but not completed because I can't find any 2x1 or 2x2 to do proper corner supports.    He's used 1x1!!  This is supposed to alst teh rest of our natural.  Not his way it won't.

Anyway, lime pickle all potted up and I'm off to get clean and do some sewing.   One frock to alter and one to sew up.

Possum is happier today after a torrid day with grumpy OH yesterday.  She's lost 3.5 kilos on a diet which doesn't not include chocolate mug cakes or pancakes but lots of healthy proteins and veggies.  We're thinking of disappearing for a couple of days and visiting a couple of Loire valley chateaux.

Only bits of sun here but a nice day nonetheless.  Not baking like other bits of Europe and not drowning, tho i wouldn't mind rain for a few days.

How's the painting coming along Hosta.  Don't suppose you could ask hubby how to neutralise a strong lime/olive green and turquoise colour scheme?  Don't want to find myself having to do 9 coats again when I start on the ex play room.    Did I mention she actually mixed sand in the paint for the downstairs toilet on the two bright, streaky yellow walls representing the beach?  There are starfish shaped mirrors stuck to the blue wall and tropical fish stickers swimming on the blue door...................

Obs, he says use a good quality white paint on it first , which might dull it down  a bit, but no magic solution . Sorry.

Yes, Joyce it's lovely now after a few heavy showers this morning. It's windy tho. Love the thought of your paying your daughter, I had to pay mine to come to church with Grannie once!

OH gone to Lanark golf course today, doesn't use it much so I am pleased, means he will be home earlier.

hilarious, or may not so for the farmers, escape of the highland coos this morning. Lovely to see so many people jump out of cars to help.  I didn't, there were enough people there alreadyimage

I put on radio 4 expecting to hear GQT but instead it was about the gardens at Glynebourne. I really would like to go there. Sounded lovely.  Anyone been?

Oh dear, Dacha...  image  Hope she's soon feeling better, hopefully without too much payment to the clinic...

    Good evening folks.  image

We've just returned from a lovely family holiday in Ireland.  Sometimes the weather was lovely, sometimes... not, but a good time was had by all.  I've just investigated a soggy and overgrown garden...  but it still contains lots of raspberries, blueberries and sugar peas.  image

At least it's near the beginning of the month so I've only 9 pages of back reading to do to catch up with this thread.  (Though I could read the rest of July if I had the time, I suppose!)

  • Anyone got any tips on freezing runner beans please?   Last year I had loads and froze them straight from the allotment.   They were disgusting when we used them over the winter.  They had kept their colour but were tasteless.

This year, I am going to have loads again and would like to freeze them but don't want to end up throwing them away.  Will blanching make that much difference to the taste?

I find them tasteless and unpleasant when fresh so never grow them.  However, the general advice seems to be to cut them into pieces and flash freeze in a single layer on a tray or blanch and drain.  Whichever method, store in portions in polythene bags in the freezer.

Hope your missus is better now DL.   Welcome home Liri.  Hope your garden's in good nick.  Glad you had a good time.

B3 and Hosta thanks - I have some white and some leftover lilac so one or both of those will help.  Not going to happen till autumn or maybe even winter tho.   Builders first.

I love runner beans very lightly cooked (I favour microwave for 2 mins) straight from the garden.  If yours are tasteless, Obelixx, perhaps you may have grown a poor variety?  My experience of trying to freeze a glut is not good.  I just give away my surplus, which keeps the neighbours sweet.  image

My garden is in need of TLC but the forecast for tomorrow and Sat is good.  Might get the 6"-long lawn cut...
