I hope the weather will be good next week when we go to Norfolk. But not too hot, don't like it when it's over 25° here. Can't garden or go for a walk when it's too hot.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hi all ,hope you are all well or getting there.......hopefully the last visit to the clinic tomorrow with my BH....and then we can repair to the dacha to start the cleanup for the coming winter ......a nice break in Kos will be very welcome
Fairy....my older brother has lived in Aberdeen for >40 years ......we have had some very grey days there with him......drives you to the pubs
You mean the south east, Fairy. It's maybe 15 degrees here today. It was warm yesterday - got into the mid twenties I should think, but that's quite rare here in the southwest generally and especially this July and August - all that cold ocean on our doorstep stops it getting very hot here unless it's really exceptional weather. If you look at weather data - for example http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/climate/#?tab=climateMaps - (averages maps and click, say, July) you can see that the temperatures east of the Somerset Levels are pretty similar to Wales and the whole of Northern Britain from The Humber to the Firth of Forth - affected by altitude and there is less high ground down here, but essentially similar and far less extreme than most of England. We get lumped in with England as a rule (which REALLY annoys the Cornish at times) but you'd be fine down here Fairy. It's not as cool as the Highlands, for sure, but it isn't like East Anglia, either

Gardening on the edge of Exmoor, in Devon
“It's still magic even if you know how it's done.”
I'm stripped down FG because it's in the roaring 14s here. Just nice for working and peeling off the layers as I warm up. The temperature doesn't bother me as much as the wet. At least when it's cold you can wear another jumper. Two pairs of wellies just doesn't work for bog dancing!
I agree PP. In Belgium I needed 3 pairs of wellies - one for warm and wet and no socks, one for cool and wet with one pair of socks and one for cold and wet with ski socks and liners. Normal winters involved weeks of -15C and worse, without protective snow. Here the worst they expect is -6C so I just need one pair. Instead of wellies I now have a range of flip flops.......
The cloud cover made it cool to 25C before lunch but it's back up to 31C now. In Belgium and London that would be impossibly hot and humid and faint making. Here, it's usually dry heat so bearable. In Jan 2001 we were at Uluru and 40C in the shade but dry and OK since we were on hols and not working in it and had plenty of water to drink.
Having had a mucky morning sanding down the teak table and oiling it, followed by lunch out, I am going to go flopalot on a sun bed.
Have to say I don't like the smell or taste of beer in any shape or form except well reduced in boeuf carbonnade à la flamande and I'd much rather have pork in cider with sage or guinea fowl in sherry with tarragon.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Ob , I know what -15 is like .....not too good, for me the colder and dryer ones are better eg. -25 with crisp snow and clear blue skies .....the coldest we have experienced at the dacha is -35 degrees .....the coldest I have ever been outside was -53 degrees in Oymyakon but this was way warmer than the record low of -70 +
No wellies here when it is that cold ...this is what we wear .......but they cost a fraction of what is being offered on the internet today https://valenkiboots.jimdo.com/
Oh, Dove its 29.3 here almost made it to you! I cant face making tomato soup, chutney, relish in this heat, may tonight! I watered early this morning and cut the grass, did some (more!) deadheading. Then just hiding under a tree, not for long grands kids 6 and 7, this week.
