    Whippets:

On the one hand, whippets have velveteen coats, are clever and talkative - sort of like a siamese cat in dog's clothing. They like to sleep warm so expect him to want to sleep under your duvet with you. They are very clean, hate the rain, will happily sleep most of the day. But they are sight hounds and they do often have a high prey drive, especially to chase rabbits and squirrels but they will also chase the neighbour's cat and, unlike a lot of dogs, are fast enough to catch it.

On the other hand, "don't breed and buy while others die". Not sure what it's like in Russia, but in the UK and especially in Ireland, there are so many dogs in rescue, including whippets and including puppies, that buying a dog from a breeder shouldn't be first choice if you want to get a dog (or a cat, come to that). It just encourages more breeding and more perfectly lovely dogs being put to sleep or spending their lives in kennels waiting for a home they never find.

Well said, Raisingirl.  I only have experience of cats, but have always been enchanted by our rescued companions.  image  There's something special about earning an animal's trust after it's had a less than perfect start in life.

I've always really liked the whippets I've known. When Wonky was a child her best friends family had two ... They were lovely family pets. Apparently they need short bursts of exercise rather than long walks.

From the pic I assumed it's not a pup and has to be "bought" from a rescue centre.  We had to pay for Rasta and the two kittens but nit Bonzo.  We did have to agree to have them all neutered and vaccinated and treated as family pets in the home,   Certainly see no point i encouraging excess breeding of pups for sale, or kittens.

Feeling dozy myself now.   G'night all.

Good night all. I've been lying in bed reading all your chat and finding it very entertaining.

I left the washing machine ready to turn on last night, so that early waker Hubby only had to put in soap and turn on. Then, when I drag myself out into mid morning sunshine, I can hang it out. Well, all was going to plan and then Hubby jumped up and said I can hear rain! A look out the window and sure enough, it's raining. So the thing is now, I've got a load of wet washing to hang out but nowhere to hang it. I think I need to have an outdoor area set up for such situations. image

Eek! There are white fluffy things floating down between the rain drops.

Hi Joyce. Yes, well sleety/snow. It's gone now at 3.45pm and even sunny, but bloomin' cold put there.

Don't worry, we aren't moving from the warm living room. I had a laugh when the weather girl announced with a fatuous smile that today is the last day of winter. No comment!
