A hoverfly (?) on our Water Lily.
Helophilius hoverfly, probably pendulus but there's a couple of similar looking ones. They're the ones that have the aquatic larvae that people know as rat tailed maggots which is why you see them hanging around ponds and water.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

One of the Emerald moths, I can't quite tell which. Very nice either way though B)

    No pictures I'm afraid
    Interested in marjoram flowers
Bright yellow face. Flat and slightly shiny.
Double body covered in silver grey hairs
    Wings
Very white legs. ( the first thing I noticed)
Any ideas what it might be?
    In London. Keen but lazy.

My linaria is totally swamped by brocade moth caterpillars. 15 on one plant. I up for sharing, for sure, but this plant is stripped of flowers. :/  I've not seen it so inhabited in previous years. They are kind of killing the host, which doesn't make much sense to me. But I will leave them be.

I've got them, but they only seem to strip the one plant and leave the ones beside it . Even the same variety.

Next post will probably be nightmare fuel for arachnophobes, you have been warned :#
But until then enjoy this monster of a crane fly I found in the greenhouse last night. Tipula maxima with a leg span of over 10cm (4"). They have aquatic larvae and I've seen a few this year so I hope this means they've hatched from my pond. This one is a male.
