Thanks @Fire, I looked at the link- but I didn't have solitary wasps, it was the vespula vulgaris, social, picnic ruining wasp. It's ok though, they have all completely vanished! So I don't mind anymore, yay!
I just measured the holes that the little wasp is choosing to nest in. A 2mm drill bit fits in there but a 2.5mm gets stuck so somewhere between the two. Maybe there are bees that would use a hole that small but I imagine that it was designed to encourage that type of wasp too.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
A very wet bee with a golden coloured mite of some sort where the left wing starts.
How to get distracted. I started trying to photograph this orchid then noticed the fly on the bottom left - some sort of dung fly? When I looked at the photo at home I then saw the crab spider on the bottom right and there is an ant crawling about the top too.
Not able to get as good a photo as some of the examples already on the thread here with the age of my phone after becoming a problem, but did use my phone to get a video clip of some interesting insect activity today. Was trying to get a video clip of a crab spider but also caught a bumble bee calling to the same flower. It looked like the spider already had a small fly so was not interested in going after the bee.
