Hummingbird hawk moth on the buddleia this evening. I didn't torture myself by even trying to take a photo. One day I'll find one that stays still for more than a nanosecond.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
  • Just the bees... lovely to have calm dry weather at last.

Not a pretty species or even a very nice species but an uncommon sight here and a good sign of a healthy ecosystem as it relies on the dark arches moth for its reproduction. It's tachinid fly Nowickia ferox. The size of a bumblebee with a horrible bristly bum and an face only its mother could love. Another species added to the garden list too.

This is a very dark dark arches moth that I found in the garden about a month ago.

I've just seen clouds of flying ants being highlighted by the sun - there must have been literally millions of them!  You'll probably need to play this in full screen mode to have any chance of making them out:

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
