Fabulous pix, especially @matt_fender and @Guernsey Donkey2 - that moth is really beautiful, and the dragonfly pix are excellent Matt Looking out the bedroom window this morning, a wee tortie was enjoying sitting on a Niobe flower The dragonfly pix reminded me of the pic I got of a golden ringed dragonfly coming down off Stob Binnein recently. There are often great flights of them at this time of year on the boggy lower slopes of hills. Just had to stand and watch while she flitted around laying eggs at my feet in any convenient bit of water
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Pruning back a euphorbia today, I exposed this spectacular caterpillar. Tried searching in all combinations of colours but can’t find what it is. Any ideas? Sorry the pic is upside down!

Well it looks like a hawk moth caterpillar and it's on a euphorbia so google says it's a euphorbia/spurge hawkmoth caterpillar. Amazing looking thing but I guess eating all that toxic sap is bound to do funny things to you.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
Wow,. what a stunning caterpillar that is @Nollie, quite a find. This is our picture from yesterday's collection of moths. Called a buff tip it looks more like wood chip to me.
Definitely wood chip-like @Guernsey Donkey2. Today there were two spurge hawk moth caterpillars on the same plant, one must have been hiding. It amazes me how such drab coloured moths emerge from such brilliantly coloured caterpillars. Lots of hummingbird hawk moths all over the agastache just now, but they move so fast it’s impossible to take a decent photo - not with an ipad at any rate!

We haven't seen any humming bird hawk moths here yet this year @Nollie and I very much doubt that we will catch one in the moth trap - do they fly at night? I agree - some of the moths are very drab looking, however once their wings are fully spread the markings on them are quite wonderful.
I’m not sure if the Hummingbirds fly at night, they are certainly very active during the day.
I relocated the the spurge caterpillars to a wild euphorbia growing in my woodland - lovely as they are I wasn’t keen on them munching my E. Blackbird. They seemed to have settled into their new home pretty well as I checked up on them later.

Hummingbird Hawk moths are daytime moths, we have loads here and try as i might to take a good photo it is nearly impossible. I would love someone on here with photography skills to tell me how to take a good photo!
