My first Cockchafer I literally heard of these for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and now here one is in my garden. I was slightly alarmed by its size! Let's just ignore the Sawfly infestation ugh.
@Crazybeelady Great shot! I haven't seen a cockchafer in ages. They used to be very common when I was young (ages ago ). Pity they don't feed on sawflies.
Gaping wing cases, slightly shiny, I'm going to go with female swollen-thighed beetle. One of the false blister beetles anyway.
Your ID was correct! Today I found a male and a female, clearly the same species but they were both green, while the earlier one was brown. According to Wiki they are only 50 miles from the Northern limit of their range, and I have never seen them before in my garden.
Look at me being correct twice in one week My caterpillar has fledged and it was an angle shades moth as predicted. I will release it tonight when the birds have gone to bed.
Also a bee.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
