    Saw this today, I believe it's a Hornet Mimic Hoverfly (approx. 20mm long).

    Hi BF,

    Yes, that's the Hornet Mimic Hoverfly Volucella zonaria. Quite impressive by its size but totally inoffensive. Just spotted one in my garden a couple or days ago.
