I really wish I could be with you to give you some hugs. I know how awful it feels to lose someone whimhas meant so much to you for years. My daughter was only 45. It always too soon to be real.

I'm so very sorry Joyce.  You have cared for him so selflessly.  He will have known that he was loved ......and that is a very important thing.

Good morning from a dull grey Namur.   Woken early by bin trucks beeping.

I'm so sorry Joyce.    I'm sure your family and friends are there to help you through a difficult time but am sending huge virtual hugs too.

*hugs* to Joyce and family. I'm very sorry to hear about your husband. But yet glad he hasn't suffered and was well looked after.

Hosta; I spoke to a chap at the weekend who pays EIGHT POUND AN HOUR for someone to babysit his dog when he goes out for the evening. That's 50 pence over minimum wage and the dog doesn't even leave the house for that.

His lordship and I wanted a dog for years before my work hours made it possible for us to have one and even then only because the dog came to work with me initially and I didn't work Mondays so he got long weekend's with company. Financially just loosing those hours is a big commitment before you realise how much you spend on a dog.

There are companies who specialise in puppy day care (I did investigate a place; not suitable for my precious Prince!) and of course dog walkers who will visit the house but...

They are big commitment, especially for a couple who can't even be arsed to dry clothes properly.

At least you are close by. I have heard tales from a landlord friend who had a no pet policy who found out by accident that the tenant was completely ignoring the rule and that the estate agent was fully aware but since money was coming in stayed quiet. Fortunately they had a very carefully worded policy which meant that the tenant had to have all of the carpets replaced (Not professionally cleaned as is standard) to a certain quality rating and pay for the flat to be redecorated by a professional company. It did take a lot of stress and threats of court action (mind you one if the threats was the tenant saying it was their right to own a pet under some human rights act which was frankly bizzare).

Tell them to have a baby instead! They take up as much of your time and energy if my own sweet puppy is anything to go by and the babysitting is cheaper!
