Flip flops are good for me because I can exercise the middle toes that have to work harder since I got my new feet and nothing is rubbing me and making blisters or achy bits. No idea how dodgy thyroids impact on tendons and things but doesn't sound too good.
Just watching Horizon's programme on driverless cars. What will they do for boys and their toys?
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
Can't stop giggling about Uranus. Shared it with Hubby.
Glad everyone else has been busy with their various activities. Good luck with the sandals Dove. Sounds very annoying. I either live in sneakers or scholl sandals, depending on weather. Not sure what I'd do if I had to go somewhere posh. Haven't worn stocking or heels in 10 years.
Hooked on Jools Holland at the moment. It must be nearly bed time. He's got Burt Baccarat there tonight.
Just popped in for a read and there's so much to read! No time to write much and worried I'll miss something important, so for the sake of equality will miss everything important, apart from two things:
- Dove. Very wide feet - tick. Falling arches - tick. One word: Birkenstock.
- And dachalover, was it you that asked about The Americans? I hardly ever manage to watch those big box set type dramas (except Line of Duty, whcih I came to late due to persuasion on here) but OH and I think The Americans is utterly, utterly brilliant. We're a bit behind - had to get BIL to bring season 3 over from the US because I refuse to pay amazon - but love it.
'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.'
My last pair of comfy Hotter sandals (wide feet, fallen arches) fell to pieces in Finland and are now residing there in landfill (unless the clever Finns can recycle footwear with disintegrating soles??). They'd done long service, though. Never heard of Birkenstock, LG - will have a look.
Dacha, I'd missed your earliest posts explaining your origins - sorry! We have a few non-native-English-speakers on this forum, some with extremely correct, rather pedantic written English; others are quite hard to understand... you were clearly different, but I didn't want to jump to conclusions. Do you speak Irish? My granddaughters live in Galway, and they learn Irish at school. My daughter has been teaching herself bits for the past couple of years but the children do it better...
Don't watch a lot of telly really. We used to watch Dr Who in the days of Tom Baker, but not a lot since.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
LG ((hugs)) thank you ... I'd not looked at Birkenstocks since the days when everything they made had toe-posts which I can't stand ......... I've just had a look ...... they do some lovely sandals ..... some quite smart .... pricier than Hotter but if they actually arrive they might be worth looking at for next summer if not before.
We're feeling very virtuous .... downstairs parquet has had a thorough waxing and buffing right through the house, everywhere has been de-cobwebbed, dusted, polished and everything is gleaming and two big bunches of sweet peas are scenting the house. OH has also cut and edged the grass at the back ....

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Dont slip on that waxed floor Dove, gorgeous sweet peas, not sure if builders have finnished, Boss Lady made site visit, I took the dogs out, havent managed to do anyhouse work, vacuuming or dusting for 2 weeks now, everywhere is awful. Have been told "Pavers" are very good for sandles, and Dorchmond, not sure if thats the correct spelling.
About the Gaelic ,when I went to school in the 50s and 60s if you were taught by the very un-Christian brothers or the not-so-nice-nuns it was a standard subject for every child as was Latin . I have had no practice at all with the Gaelic but interestingly enough the Latin grammar constructs are very similar to those of the Russian language so that helped. I'm a scrabble fanatic and I still today always check the roots of all words I come across and of course the vast majority have Latin origins
LG...glad to hear you like the Americans .....it is very popular with all my Russian friends .....because of course if you ask any non Russian 'what do you associate Russia with' its usually .....spies , bears, ballet, big , vodka , Putin , spies ........my wife's father RIP was in the KGB before it became the FSB ......once again people jump to conclusions and believe everyone who was in the agency was a spy. I have many friends who studied at the KGB/FSB academy which is very prestigious and attracted the brightest people . I of course was considered to be a spy very early on .....but that is another very interesting story
Evening all. Just had a quick read back: Uranus, comfy shoes, sweet peas and Russian spies... there is tonight's dreaming sorted!
Awaiting forecast thunder storm here... no sign yet. Been very humid today - patio doors still remaining closed with the kittens running about so had a cheeky nap whilst watching Nadiya's British Food Adventure, but woken up hungry now. Doing some lemon and herb chicken so just deciding baguette or new potatoes...

Obelixx, thank you - we are sailing Cairnryan to Larne, which is only a 2-hour crossing. Should be ok I think...
