Just found this thread. Congratulations on your tea room. I know you are in France but it is quite the thing here in Scotland now to get tea in cafes in old fashioned China cups and saucers some of them mismatched, all sourced from charity shops where they are cheap as chips. Maybe too late now but an idea for the future.

Hogweed, there aren't many charity shops in France and English teacups are hard to come by as the French don't use them. I've advertised on an English website here in Dordogne and DD has managed to collect some. A friend of mine has some more. We are going to Norfolk in July, I'll have a look round in the charity shops too.

We are hoping to go to tea when it's open.

Great stuff DD.  Will you do a French version to attract French holiday makers and locals out of season?

I'll keep an eye in local Trocs and brocantes for china the cups and plates if you like.  Trouble is, they often have gold trim which doesn't do well in a dishwasher.   I'll let you know how I get on.

My hubby is from Bradford, and his mum introduced me to parkin 40 years ago.  Lovely stuff...  image

DD, I've been following your journey with great interest and I have to say huge admiration.  Am thrilled for you that your dream of opening your tearoom is so close to fruition.  Just know it will be a great success. Bravo ?  Have some lovely cake recipes if you ever need any.

    Hello all,

Thanks so much for all your words of support and encouragement. image For someone who is used to being busy life just now has become extremely busy and with being 'stuck' on a compulsory course (why couldn't they send me months ago image) I really have been at whirlwind pace. I am fielding all sorts of calls whilst sat in the class via text and e-mail with phone hidden under the desk. I have an absolutely 'dedicated' tutor who know and feels obliged to share every minute detail of French law regarding the service of alcohol and every statute number, including its additions and all the various levels of fines should we break the law. I have actually got to the bottom of the disabled toilet law and actually that works in my favour now I understand it, hurrah. image

Keep the recipes coming, I am stashing them all for later. I don't want this menu to get boring. image

Here are some 'work in progress/before pics - and yes we will be up and ready on Saturday. image

Thanks all so much for sharing the 'journey' with me, finishing line in sight. image Off to a barn now to hunt for more teapots.

All the best to you DD. You've worked so hard, and kept going when the going was getting tough.

I'll be thinking of you on Saturday, as I'm sure most people here will too. We'll be sending you lots of virtual hugs for a brilliant and successful day xxx   image
