Im a custodian/maintenance guy at a architectural/engineering company my dad works at lol >.< but I just love gardening and everything to do with it. My real job is flowers haha ^-^
but this is our pindo palm, thats the neighbors next door, my mom own our side and my dad owns the other and rents it out. But this pindo palm is still on our side, dads side has one too and it's a bit bigger and has a more blue tint to it, he planted both of them a while back like ten years or so. But each cluster of fruits can weigh 20-25lbs and up, they're quite heavy. And on each branch are spikes along the sides and I have to be careful when cutting branches and moving them, but the husks are pretty cool too and can be left on to create a more exotic effect or taken off if you want a more formal look. After the fruit have dropped off the fruiting branch will remain and just the same it can be cut too or left on, I cut it personally a little later cause I don't mind the look.
Pictures~ The first is a Mourning horse-fly that was on the truck at work it was pretty big and was jet black. The next are some carpenter bees, there were like 10 big ones circling around this broken electrical post. They were being very social and playful at times and some flew away but a couple stayed together, I actually thought they were bumblebees but Dillon said they were carpenters and was right as usual lol. Next is just some pictures of our yard, i like to see it change. And the pitcher plant about to flower. The last is a tiny purple flower that's probably considered a weed and I don't know the name I'm still looking that up lol. But to see it in the last pic look at the bottom where the red fence is and look left and follow the stalks branches to the flowers ^-^ there very nice though.
pt.II - notes: bee in the butterfly pea flower, five spotted hawk moth caterpillar, ghost peppers, cotton opening. This will be the 7th time the cereus flowers this year if it does. And that caterpillar did a number on the tomato plants at work but I got it off and the plants are doing just fine now, I'll have a pic of that later. Also got a bird of paradise plant, not sure what kind but it's behind the plumeria(plumaria)
Well some bad news but good in a way. A few weeks ago I noticed there were bees all around the box and asked my dad the bee keeper to lend me another box soon to add on to the original. A couple days after I asked the bees swarmed and left the box. It wasn't so bad to hear but then after they left it had been a couple weeks and my dad finally came by to check them out and said some thing like "yeah there was about 5 gallons of honey in it when the bees left but it's bad now and hive beetle set it" I was like darrrrrrrrrn!!!!!!! But we'll try again, I just need my own bee suit and smoker and everything should be fine. Just a lesson if your gut tells you something, try to do it soon, I was a little late ha, but there's always tomorrow. Other than that all is well and the plants are still doing fine, and seeing that I don't own a big field of flowers and most of my plants are specimen plants that I'm not sure how or can't collect seed from its the same. I just miss the fresh honey. On the other hand we never got a lot of honey out of our box because it was a nursery hive and more for studying bees than for the honey. My dad still has other hives and is able to get honey and bees I just don't like feeling like I did something wrong lol
Thank youand some pictures... this will be the seventh time the night bloomer has flowered on us this year and it could be ten or more cause there are still little and medium flower stalks on it! ^-^ there were some double purple angel trumpets flowering with it too and the smell was wonderful, the best way I can put it is the night blooming flower has a more antique like very light vanilla-y smell to it and the purple trumpet flower has more of a strong fruit loops smell that feels fun. The flower arrangement I put together is just 2 peace lilies, bat flower and purple angel trumpet. The peace lilies usually only turn a greener tint I've noticed when it rains more but idk all I know is that it hasnt been colored and when we bought it the flowers were white, and they still are white sometimes but it varies. The last is Berry (pronounced like the French town) wanting to go to work with me and trying on my backpack lol, he had to stay home but he's my baby boy!
10k views yeah! the first picture is at work and I was trying to show the tops of the two taller tomato plants. Ive also tied them up more since the picture cause they looked a bit saggy. 8th time the cereus flowered, i counted over 20 flower buds on it now. The next is a pontederia or pickerel plant. A baby lizard on the dahlia. A seed husk of the Chinese lantern which should turn orange I think, we have 3 types, one has green lanterns with dark edges which was from our neighbors along with one that has a softer leaf with lanterns that turn yellow and has little berries inside there husks as well. Some grass that looks beautiful but I don't know the name and since the stream is down the road little fiddler crabs come through our yard when it rain for long periods sometimes.
