Proper rain here at last! Weds all day yesterday from 3pm. Water buts overflowing, everything green & refreshed. Now I can plant my sprouts & broccoli !!
A lovely day here, dry, sunny and well not as warm as we would like but pleasant all the same.
You sound like a happy bunny Iain and I remember the relief when we had our first rain for 20 + days, we still have filled up water butts and I am quite happy for it to rain every 3rd or 4th day providing it doesn't rain all day long.
We had not had a serious amount for over 6 weeks only spits & spots and enough to settle the dust. Now a week on & we need more again the forecast says we might get thunderstorms tomorrow (Saturday) here's hoping!! Spent nearly all day watering yesterday- Allotment in morning & garden in evening!
I looked at the forecast and it did not look as if the rain would get much further north than the west midlands. On the current Met office map there is one solitary cloud over Ullapool and one over York.
Wall to wall plants wilting everywhere . Not to mention me. I am hoping the house shadow will soon be across my patio.
We have had some massive flashes of lightening towards the south this evening, but no thunder or rain as yet - but has been forecast for tonight and tomorrow too. I hope you get some rain soon Iamweedy and everyone else who is desperately in need of it.
We have just had a rumble of thunder and some heavy drops of rain and that is it .
We have just emptied our fourth cubic meter bag of soil onto the garden since March. We still need some more and someone on freecyle is offering it. I hope they still have some and my OH is in a position to collect it, He is not a gardener by inclination.
That is more than we had last night (as far as I know), but the lightning was spectacular on it's way North.
All that soil moving keeps you fit Iamweedy, and my OH isn't a natural gardener either, but very handy when heavy objects need moving, or a patch needs digging, lawns need mowing etc. .....
At last we have e some really useful rain in Cheshire and south westerly winds and rain hitting the corner of our house . No watering needed.
Oops (Be careful what you wish for.) We have a " yellow rain warning" crossing Wales. Midlands and the Northwest. This could affect the Chatsworth show gardens.
actual rain in Teesside, first time in about a month that rain has reached off the roof into the water butts (ignoring a thunderstorm two weeks ago when I has 10 whole minutes of heavy rain!)
