Thanks folks will avoid yellow flag and bullrush.  It was 2 plants not 3 that I couldn't remember they were Ladies Smock and Dwarf Spearwort

You've done a cracking job thus far Yviestevie.  I've used the same liner after doing my research I found the same as you and it was also recommended by a few folks on this site too.  I've got my liner in and filled with water.  Struggled to find the native oxygenators I wanted locally so am now waiting on them coming from online suppliers.  Good luck with the remainder of the work.

    Day 4

Haven't done much on the pond today as it's been wet and cold.  Have stepped the beach end and will get some large pebbles/stones to put at the bottom of the slope to stop the pebbles slipping.  Hoping for better weather tomorrow, although can't do much more on the pond until the liner arrives.

Where did you end up buying your stones and slate from YvieStevie?  Interested for future purchases.

Hi Cloggie,  I bought them from Webbs garden centre.  Not cheap but I didn't need loads and I got to pick the exact pieces I wanted.  They were £7 for two pieces but I managed to get large ones.  If you order it by the tonne you have to have what they send you.  Went back today and got a couple more pieces and also a couple of bags of moonstone chippings to use inbetween the stones.  Just waiting for the pond liner to arrive now.  Can't wait to get moving, hope it arrives soon.

I'm excited too, can't wait to see it complete.

Mine might be next year now (got a lot going on) but we have a field pond round the corner so got high hopes.

    Still Day 5

Well that was a good mornings work.  Here are the photos.

This is the liner we used.  We ordered 5x4.  They sent 5x5 so we have quite a bit left over.

What a mess liner is huge

    Took lots of fiddling about

Finally started to put the water in.  Kept pulling the lines to reduce creases

    Full now

    Placed the stones

Trimmed excess liner and underlay and added the chippings and barley straw

Have to wait now for about a week before the plants can go in.  Have run the liner and underlay under the soil at the back of the pond so it should be nice and boggy for plants.  Still need to get some small rocks to put in the pond on the ledge at the back to help critters climb out and keep the chippings in place.

Pleased with it so far but it's been hard work.

I'll post a breakdown on the costs later so people can see how much it cost to create this size of pond.

I'll also post piccies of how it settles and how the plants go in etc.
