This morning it looks like the pigeons have had an early morning rave again, there's wing scum on the surface, a few dead leaves but an awful lot of mozzie babies and murk. We've been down with a torch at night and it is full of water boatmen now though.

I'll post a new pic on the end of that thread showing "progress" eek <blush> imageimage

Sooo excited. I have frogspawn. Pond barely a year old so wasn't expecting any. Just wish they had waited until after the weekend freeze to lay it. Hope it will be ok. Anything I can do to protect it?

Sorry didn't your post from awhile back cloggie.  Yes I do have a pump and filter.  Hubby insisted, must say though it has made maintenance easier and it hasn't bothered the wildlife one bit.

Cloggie just followed your link.  The pond looks beautiful, you must be really pleased with it.

  • That frog spawn must be the icing on the cake for you Yviestevie - I am just a little green with envy......  We don't even have any spawn in our older established pond this year.  We think the newts and the cat have put paid to the frogs and spawn, as we used to get a few good healthy clumps.  Having said that we have been given a very small amount on spawn from a friend last week, so are hoping some of it will survive the coming cold weather.  We put a small floating ball in the pond to prevent the water from freezing completely.

It came as such a suprise GD didn't expect it at all.  Just hoping it survives the weekend.

  • Yes, I am hoping the same Yvie - although not freezing here, the temperature is due to drop from 8 to 3 overnight.

Well despite thinking that my frog spawn might have died in the freezing weather I now have lots of little tadpoles wriggling round the pond :DI'm so happy.
