  • Clarington:  Many thanks for your observations about your strawberries.  I will watch and see what happens rather than going "by the book".

Last year, I put my strawberries in soil in the hanging baskets but by the time the liner was in and the soil there wasn't much room for the plants so this time I bypassed the liner and just put a pot of soil in the basket itself.

    Hello all!

Busy morning here including "jollying along" my OH, who was ill over the weekend but needs to go and conduct a choir this afternoon.  His temperature is back to normal, but he's still feeling a bit delicate...

Plantmaiden, I'm with Clari on age of strawberries.  I replaced mine last winter, putting the new ones in a different spot, because the old ones were producing less and just looked... a bit past it; leaf spots, woody stems etc.  They were probably 5 years old.  I'm just about to go to the GC to buy more strawberry mats.  I find they work well for strawberries in the ground; we don't have a ready supply of straw, not being in an arable area, and these black biodegradable mats keep the fruit clean and suppress weeds.

Amberspy, hope the doc appointment sorts out the infection and you soon feel full of beans again.  image

Wonky, that sounds to have been a great party!  Hope you're still enjoying work.

BM, looking forward to your "after planting" photos of the grass bed!

Right.  Time to catch the bus to the GC... a good way to limit the amount I buy, cos I have to be able to carry it home!  image

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Sitting chillin' at the Sainsbury Centre having seen a brilliant Paul Nash exhibition. I love this place - if you don't know where I am google SCVA image
