Just inspected my strawberry plants in the greenhouse. All doing fine. I grew them last year in smallish pots in hanging baskets all along each side inside my greenhouse. We had so much fruit and so much earlier than if they had been outside so have repeated the process this year with new plants. One to me, nil to the slugs!
The old plants are outside now. I have heard they should be replaced every second year anyway but might have just made that up.
Yes Joyce I'm promised greenhouse this weekend! We managed to put the base together and the door but there are four walls and a roof and window to go! Lovely trug isn't it! Made me feel so special! There was also a boxed set of engraved rhs trowel and hand fork! ?
Hi BusyL, Regina is a person whose Mother lives in the village but Regina lives and works at one of the caves which tourists visit. She's a guide. The biggest problem is that she is also involved with the fire brigade as a volunteer fire fighter like my Hubby, but she treats our place like a drop in centre. She turns up at times when we don't expect her and always talks loudly over the evening TV viewing. It annoys the h..l out of me. Our viewing together (Hubby and I) in the evening is our special time together. It's difficult in a small village to create ill feeling, so I don't make a fuss. The good thing about this site is that I can have a whinge here where we are anonymous.
Glad you are enjoying the Cornish weather Yvie. Will you go to The Lost Gardens of Heligan while you are near Mevagissy? My favourite Cornish garden. This year they are starting a rare breeds section.
Just on tea break from hoovering! Blooming thing! Gave the stairs a treat and always end up running my feet over, catching my hair in the tube bit and pull already achey arm muscles they should have health warnings ?
I too am fortunate to finish work early Lurcher and like you worked for some company nearly 30 years. It takes a bit of getting used too but now spring is here I'm beginning to love it
Plant Maiden: Hopefully this wont get lost but you mentioned replacing strawberries every two years. I think they advise every three years so you've another year yet of them! To be truthful however I have mine in hanging baskets (soil replenished every year) to keep them out of the way of the hound eating them / slugs / hounds amazing ability to pee up everything / ... and I just replace them as their crop production drops dramatically OR when I have so many younger plants I've run out of space and need to economise (survival of the fittest in my garden). I do know however that some of the plants were five years old last year and were still going strong.
Its usually easy to tell which ones are due retiring to the great compost bin at the end of the garden.
I did find watering a bit of a pain in the summer but have since learnt that an up turned plastic two litre cola bottle filled and dug into the basket does a good job of trickle feeding.
Well I've done a stock check of the coffee shop (not technically my job) and flitted around with a duster (not technically my job) on a few exhibits... I'm at a loss what to do now! I can't exactly be planning summer holiday activities and such like when I might not be here!

Oh I would .. I'd plan lots of things that only you know how to do ... then if you're not there they'll jolly well miss you!
OH has been a complete star and cleaned the insides of the sitting room windows - that's a job that really hurts my shoulder. They're absolutely gleaming ... the outsides were done last week so still look good.

Pat, you've mentioned Regina several times, but I seem to have missed the post that said who she is. Who is she?
