The shard of glass has been located image ............ after I'd checked and washed down every piece of equipment, plant pot, jar of chillies, precious pebbles with holes in and the usual detritus of my kitchen I found it ..... in the drain-hole of the little sink in the middle of the worktop .... why didn't I look there in the first place .... except now I have a tidy and sparkling kitchen image .... except for the floor which I've not washed ..... yet.

Now it's time for another image

and I'd better write a shopping list of essentials ........ coffee, loo rolls ..........

Typical Dove.  Cos of all the paws here we get the vacuum cleaner out straight away to clear floors after checking surfaces.

It is almost lunch time and I should be taking the dogs for walkies while the chaps disappear for 2 hours but I am fading and will try and have a snoozle instead.   I've been outside in some fairly frisky breezes rescuing ly first wheelbarrow load of daffs.    Went to start planting some in the bed under the silk tree and it's suddenly full of celandine and baby lords and ladies.   Lots of clearing to do there then.

I took the dogs out for a bit of air and a pee and the kittens scooted thru the open door.  They're now helping the fence men.   Cosmos was 6 months old a few days ago.  I shall book him in for his op once all these strange men have done their stuff so the dogs are calmer while he's feeling tender.

"Renal colic" seems the best guess but I'm being sent for a tummy xray to have a better look and I have to drop in " a sample"image

Doc has suggested melatonin for sleep issues. Anyone tried it?

    Morning allimage

Hope everybody is sorting out their various problems - health, money and glass wise.

Delivery of 9 shrubs & roses for the new border yesterday. A couple more to get plus a few clematis - and then I can start to think about underplanting / perennials. Credit card is groaningimage. Fortunately I have quite a few perennial divisions / grown from seed in the nursery bed so I may have to make do with those for this season.

Was also going to treat myself to some nice obelisks for structure and plant support - but I may have to make do with hazel poles for the moment. Special birthday and wedding anniversary coming up later in the year - maybe I could ask for them then.

OH has just said he's going to make his way home tonight - hurrahimage - but that means I need to have a whizz round with the duster and vac - boo. I can be a bit of a slob when he's away.image

Should still be able to get outside for 2 or 3 hours this afternoon - and it feels much nicer than yesterdayimage

Exciting TB.  I had some roses delivered the other day too including Lady if the Lake who will cover the taller of the two fences being built today.    I shall have to go shopping for a clematis partner though as I don't have a suitable candidate for colour contrast but I suspect I won't have that much choice round here.

Have you thought of making obelisks?  Could be cheaper than buying and would be much less expensive and the size you want - http://www.hgtv.com/design/outdoor-design/landscaping-and-hardscaping/make-an-obelisk-for-climbing-plants

You're right Obx - I could have a go at making some but I'm not sure how good they would beimage

Maybe I could have a furtle around in the garage and see if we've got some old wood which I could use to make a small one as a trial first. If that looks ok I might invest in some wood and have a go. Geoff Hamilton always made it look easy didn't he?

    Thanks for the linkimage

The roses I bought included a new DA - Roald Dahl. Ticked a lot of boxes off my checklist but the thing that swung it was the description of 'Almost thornless'.

Try telling my poor thumb that...image

It's been one of those days so far .......... did my shopping - no Le Parfait jars but more due in any day so I'll pop down next week.

Then because of the car's blown fuse the other day, the radio needed its code putting in again ... I'd got the code and the instructions .... could I get it to accept the code, could I heck image  so I phoned the nice garage who look after my car and they said take it to them now, so I did.

Oz sat down confidently in the seat and started pressing buttons ................................. half an hour later it was nearly done, but no matter how many times he tried the radio would not accept the last digit.

We both read and re-read the instructions but no joy ... then a woman who worked in the office and had bought a similar model car just a couple of weeks ago came over and sorted it out ... bless her .... no charge for any of it.  image

    Hope you get a resolution.

T'bird- if you buy roofing battens, they'll make good obelisks. Not expensive. I've used them for making trellis, and my screen is ust a heavier version of them. image

Hope the thumb isn't too painful.

I think my bank balance might take a battering soon with clematis too. I just had an email from Taylor's about a clem I was interested in to say it's back in stock. I knew that was a mistake filling that in....image

Nice pale daffs there Obelixx. Hope you can transplant those.

Glad you found your bit of glass Dove. I hate when that happens. You always seem to find it at the bottom of a bowl of washing up or something - and get caught out.

The sun disappeared a while ago and it's hazy, but the temps got into double figures recently. I won't get too excited just yet, and I'll leave the bikini in the cupboard for now. I'm sure you're all relieved...

I've forgotten everything else I meant to say now, so I'll have to read back...  image

I seem to remember Geoff H making some from roofing lathes which are already pressure treated and just need staining.   If you drill small holes and then use screws it shouldn't split the wood and you'll end up with something quite sturdy.   Worth a go on a trial size tho.

I have brought some rusty metal obelisks with me - left a lot behind too - but I'm not sure they're big enough for most of my current clems so will have to build trellis or pergola or obelisk supports to suit.   My new ones include the Pilgrim, Fighting Temeraire, Summer Song and Lark Ascending plus Malvern Hills and William Shakespeare which I had in Belgium.  I've brought several more with me, already in pots or as cuttings so should have a good selection t get me going.

It is so cold in the wind that I have come back in and am making lists of plants on the PC whilst watching recordings of Carol Klein's year in the garden.    I went to let the kittens back in and Cosmos, who normally goes thru a whole greetings ritual rushed headlong straight upstairs and into the litter tray.  Desperate.   Blonde!  Going to have to teach him about the outdoor loo we've made.   Minstrel, meanwhile, has had that sussed for a couple of weeks and decided to do a thorough explore of kitchen man's van while I shivered.
