GD - the problem with these kinds of offers is just that - you don't always know what you're getting, because if they run out of something, you get a replacement which might not be suitable for your needs. Far better to buy for the purpose you need and the position you have. Spend a little time researching and get the right thing, especially if it's for a pot. image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • My GW mag has just arrived with an offer of a clematis collection from Montrose - 4cm plug plants - 5 for £9.95 image

Get in early and hopefully they won't run out of anything.

I had a catalogue from the RHS when they delivered my recent order. I am sneakingly looking at it now. I think its sort of "Garden Porn" I feel I ought to hide it behind the Radio Times. image

  • Ah, so they are running the offer again in the GW mag., that is the same as last year, although perhaps the clematis are different types this year. The plugs took a while to "take off", but I enjoyed nurturing them, I would do it again.  Hope my mag comes soon.

  • Guernsey Donkey if you are a subscriber to the GW mag and have signed in to the secret garden the offer for the clematis is on there to order. Some good all year round clematis, all AGM.

  • I will take a look lily thanks for reminding me, no Morrisons here aym, but we do have B&Q.  Waitrose too, but they don't seem to do much in the plant range, however I will take a look next time I am passing by.

    Hi there, Guernsey Donkey.

Have just been to take a look at my Clematis montana and took a photo which may cheer you up. It is just starting to come into bud. And I agree with others, this is definitely not a pot plant, it needs a lot of space both for its roots and its branches!

  • Ah Papi Jo, I was wondering how your Montana was in bud, but then found that you live south of us in Britainy, how far south are you exactly.  I have cycle, walked, driven in Britainy many times, often on the way down to the Loire or Dordogne and many other beautiful places.

Anyway it is great to see life beginning again in your clematis and I hope it continues to provide you with some beautiful flowers this year.  How old is the plant?

I have both fed and watered mine in the last couple of days, and will now continue to do so in the hope that it will come to life again.

  • There is life in our Montana, but I fear that it is struggling.  When I planted it in it's pot last summer the Montana was healthy with lovely strong growth and now, although it is still alive it isn't a happy clematis and I am not happy either.  I am hoping with that with plenty of feed and watering it will flower later this summer and then perhaps I can prune it, remove it from the pot and plant it somewhere where it can spread it's roots. I took first picture after planting it in the pot last summer and the second one today. What do you think?imageimage

You need a decent depth of soil and a lot of space for  a clematis montana. Unless it would  be possible to Bonsai it.
