Is it me or have plant prices suddenly rocketed? Had a look at Sarah Raven site and the prices seem really expensive for 9cm pots. I know some of the varieties you don't get elsewhere but even so...........

Hogweed I have to agree with Aym she has always been a bit more expensive. I prefer to hunt out smaller nurseries that aren't going on name. If I see something I like then I search for that specific item and see who's got the best offers.

Aym I had some plants turn up in awful conditions from a supplier last year. Still trying to resolve two lots. That's why this year will be the ones that did well or responded quickly to any concerns or smaller/ less well know companies. I need to try and reign in my love of the exotic and unusual and get back to some more hardy basics. Mind you I'm going to give Oca a go (New Zealand yams) they are on offer with marshalls today. ?

Don't think we have any Wilco's up here. And the selection of perennials up here from nurseries isn't good. So mail order is the only way to go if I want specific genera never mind varieties !!

ive had a look at the Peter nyssen site and it looks good for the more common stuff so may go there and put a smaller order into Sarah raven's.

go to the best nursery here and check out how much 2-3 litre pots of commoner stuff would be.

dahlias and lily bulbs - trying to be good, but suspect I shall fail as ever - but I will try - honest!!

Would like lilies but I can't risk them with the cats. I think Dahlias really are on the upturn, they were out of favour for a fair while but people are buying again. Well we all seem to be ?. Life is too short Bookertoo, enjoy your plant shopping.

Adore lilies, and have never stopped growing dahlias - cannot think why fashion comes into it image but such is life

Enjoy your shopping too -  we all will I hope.

Jenny your kitties look adorable (and mischievous)! Beautiful markings.

I few years ago I bought some clematis from a website called 'The Clematis Man'.  They were really good value and very healthy.  There was a thread on it somewhere (2014 so a while back).

Im going to try and kerb my spending this year.....but I've already got a wish list and aspirations to widen my borders!!

Like you say though, life is short so live it up in whatever way makes you happy.

Ooooh, do get a kitty from Cats Protection league. Our Sydney was 8 yrs old when we got him and he is just adorable.

Thank you Tootles and Beaus they look pretty but they are both gits. ?

Beaus you have a honeyberry that is like a shrubby blueberry, is that the one? I bought one of these a few years back and it tastes foul. Can you let me know when you get fruit if it's ok as I might just have a duff one.

My Japanese wineberry might actually be two young cuttings in the same pot, will investigate this later in the growing season. My Oca have just arrived and i picked up some seed potatoes at the garden centre. Looking forward to things growing now. ?
