  • The soil is a bit overrun with roots from a shrub that's grown really big and it's also really heavily shaded now. When we shift things about we'll move it into a better position.

    hi Jenny,

[email protected] is the place to get one, probably in March but to make sure order one now.

I think it will be about £9.50 for a crown or you can get seeds cheaper.

  • Thanks valerie, I think Chiltern might do the seeds. Time for a nose through the seed catalogues tonight.

Aym I bought a hellebore from the little garden centre I like. The plant wasn't as big as some of the others but the pot was full of seedlings coming up like cress. I'll pot them all up and see what comes through. :)

My daughter helped me plant two standard magnolias that arrived today and she dug up the old rhubarb that was rotten in the middle and replanted the live buds from the outside. Now we have 5 young rhubarb plants to take over.

  • I'm a bit late to the party here, but have already bought quite a lot...

Two clematis. One called 'Temptation' for my dad's special birthday, in his favourite colour of outrageously ridiculous purple (you'll see it from space Aym!) and a pink one called 'Debutante' that was reduced to a fiver for me, as postage is the same. Got them from Taylor's, the specialist online clematis shop, next day delivery (although P&P is £7.95) and they're great plants. Same total price that I paid in Wyevale before I knew better and guaranteed at least two years old.

I also succumbed to temptation at Wilko's! Two packs of 3 dahlia pompom tubers, rananculas 'Rhubarb and Custard' and two Dicentra, one pink and one white.

I've bought an embarrassing amount of seeds, mixture of brands. Got some from a new (to me) place recommended by someone on the forums, higgledygarden.com No idea what they'll be like, but enjoying the owner's social media feed immensely and his growing guides are well worth checking out. I even got some sanths, not a flower I'm usually fond of, but he stocks a lovely variety called 'Rainbow' and calls them 'Rainbow Hippy Love Child' so how could you not?!

I bought and have caused to be assembled three 6x3 raised beds, so having a great time planning what I'm going to grow in them. Current thinking (which keeps changing) is one for fruit and vegetables, one for annuals and one for melons. I really want to try growing melons with my little one, but Bob says no more than 2/3 plants to a bed that size and I'm now thinking of lots of other stuff I could put in it instead...

    C J W P, I have a cat called Blue:

(There are more comfi beds in the house, but you know what cats are like!)

  • I didn't even realise it had two different flowers Aym - I just went for the colour - bonus! image

I don't think I'd go that far for melons, I've got them a growhouse that sits on the raised bed, they'll have to be happy with that I'm afraid!

He's a neutered tom, enormous, but a complete softy, he gets bullied relentlessly by the local cat population. He won't stay indoors though.

  • Oh dear, I've been at it again....

This time I've ordered a few ajuga burgundy glow (I wanted black scallop but they would have cost too much), a few creeping thymes to go between paving slabs and a load of geranium elke.

    I can't help myself!
