  • Beaus mum, I couldn't get on here at all and had to get my son to work out the problem. I'm going to have to try a few of the other threads, I'm not being very adventurous and there's so many topics. Will give them a go later and see what's on them.

Aym normally he takes me out here and there but he didn't feel confident this time because I couldn't see. I lost my eyesight for a few days and he said he's not that observant and would probably walk me face first into something. I'm unsteady on my feet anyway so I wouldn't have been confident. He's taking me to B & Q and Wickes next week to hunt guttering so I can get out then. Might force him into going to another garden centre if the weather isn't too bad. Keep an eye on those knees, nothing worse than them giving way under you, I'm not allowed stairs anymore as mine give out after a few steps.

Richard I looked at that Facebook page, terrible thing. I had a list in my head of clematis within seconds and I love the Scilla maderiensis. image

  • New arrival for 2017,  3 snowdrop Atkinsii bulbs from that lovely nursery Avon bulbs. Now I can understand that to 99% of you this will seem a very small order but when I look at these 11 inch stems with the most graceful of hanging bell I am over the moon.  Can only hope that they multiply rapidly. They have been put in my violet bed which has been flowering since 15 january , Very little effort needed to plant up So I shall sit and watch them settle in. Happy days.

Lovely! Are they all still ready for flower? How many did you get per pack?

  • They are in full bloom. They were 3 to a pack which cost £12, a bit expensive for me but they are exceptional in my view and with only a small garden allocated to flowers perfect. The postage was a bit much but when I received them in a box so beautifully packed it was worth it.  Anyway, that's it for flowers this year,  now waiting for this new to me  skirritt plant.  Quite an adventure!

  • Just ordered a mulberry,  samphire seeds and a caviar lime.  Going to grow some more edibles this year.

Valerie is that Skirret, perennial parsnip. Crikey that's an old veg in the U.K, predates the potato. That'll be interesting, where did you get those from? I'm up for trying new edibles at the moment. I think I'll just end up grazing my way around the garden.

  • Not an order as such but as I'm visiting my parents I popped into Ashwood nurseries and picked up a couple of their hellebores.  Not been there before - they certainly have a lot to choose from!!

  • Aym I've been after a Mulberry for ages but they are too big usually. Suttons has a dwarf one that can be grown in a big pot if necessray. Just right for me.

  • Aym / Verdun, unfortunately Ashwoods isn't close to me, just not too bad from my parents in Brum.

Yes there were black ones there, I was tempted but ended up choosing a couple that would brighten up a shady corner.

Picture below of those that I bought, hellebores are so awkward to photograph! ?.

  • Aym I believe niger is black and praecox is early. If I'm right I think the Niger bit is because maybe the stems are darkish. Somebody will put me right if I'm wrong. Some of my best hellebores are self seeders. I have to move the black double I have into a better position as I think it's a bit weaker than some of the other.
