Have you thought of taking hard wood cuttings of any roses you have
Last year took 4 and 3 grew , will be replanting them in due course

  • Hello, yes I tried cuttings from an unknown pink rose I took from my sisters garden when I first got this house. They did take but I didn't need them/have space for them at the time, it was just an experiment.

Do you think they would grow as well on their own roots? (I did read the recent thread on this but think I missed the pertinent point 😳 )

Can’t see why not , give it a go , 2 chances , works or not
Always like the try new things
  • You've just given me an idea as I was going to buy a couple of blackthorn for the allotment, will see if I can create some from the plants I have in the garden. Will look it up  :)

Blackthorns bushes have sent out so many runner from the plot next to the bottom halve of my allotment , I decided to let a couple grow and they are doing really well
In fact there where so many runner that I have put broken slabs in the soil to try and stop them spreading
    Hope yours works as well
  • I going to take them next year as softwood...I'm going to cut the hedge which is mixed quite low after flowering anyway to try and tighten it up.

    Hello
    how is it going ?

Bubble rapped g/h today and yesterday sorted out ruhbard and dahlia bed at allotment
Day of tomorrow going to football match
Hoping to go to plot on Sunday
  • Hello, how are you?

I skived off last weekend as I hurt my back moving the front garden about but am hoping to pop up the plot tomorrow. Haven't got much to do at present, just check on my seedlings and stuff.

Got some garden stuff to do though, had two of my three rose deliveries arrive this week (shopped around to save a few £) so want to get them planted.

Hello , always seem to have jobs to do
This winter lots of of what I call maintance eg. Stain shed , repair broken fence posts , lots of pruning etc etc
Hope your back gets better ASAP

  • Good time for maintenance, when all the plants aren't in the way.

My back is fine now thank you, it repaired in time to go back to work. Will be shifting topsoil from the front garden to the allotment over the next few weeks so plenty of opportunity to break it again 😀

I've got enough jobs to do until the end of the year, then not so sure, might have to find something else to do 🤔
