Hi @Victoria Sponge I think I bought my Bocking variety of comfrey years ago but always dig a bit up and take it with me when I move house and it does the rest! It's meant to be less invasive than the native variety but it's still pretty prolific and has to be contained.
Hello , we have a green plastic netting around plot , unfortunately hasn’t lasted well , keeps ripping and we mend it with cable ties , wouldn’t recommend it
Wow, nearly a month since my last confession. I'm a little surprised it's the middle of April already, kind of took me by surprise.
I've been digging over the line where I want to plant my summer cell raspberries, also been carrying out some anti-couch weeding. I'm not going to fix it, will just have to dig over every now and again.
Put the raspberry net up and placed the pots where I want them to go, will plant next weekend. Could have done with weeding the area for the autumn rasps but it started hailing enthusiastically and I gave up.
I took up some daffs I had in a pot that aren't quite nice enough for the garden, a multiheaded type called Sweet Love. They are scented I noticed when they were in the passenger footwell, not altogether unpleasant. Also took up a pot full of camassia that are surplus to garden requirement and some other bits and bobs.
Thought my beetroot were coming up, they looked rather haphazardly sown but on closer inspection I think it's a few dozen borage seedlings, just getting the fuzzy leaves through. Will try and move them elsewhere.
Sowed some sweet pea seeds, have a few packets more than I need, might try a second sowing later in the year, although last year's lasted until winter if I recall.
Here's a pic from last weekend of the hyacinths, starting to fade now:
Hello , glad it’s going well Garden & Allotment up to date , however , going on holiday next week 1st & 2nd early potatoes 🥔 , cabbage in , going to plot tomorrow for more planting Greenhouse frame was being covered as another fruit cage , however , it has made a fabulous sheltered siting area , will put picture on when finally finished
Hello , wondered how you are doing Personally going well , the use of membrane to cover beds has worked so well , stops the weeds so successfully , I feel it helps to keep in control Will put a picture on site for you
Hello GWRS, I'm still here and thanks for posting the pics, looks very smart.
I keep pottering up the allotment but to be honest I am just letting it tick over at the moment, doing a bit of weeding and keeping pots watered while I let the clay laid out on the surface decompose.
I went up last last weekend and everything has either set fruit or has flowers, gooseberries, currants, apples and rasps. I lost two raspberry plants this year, an All Gold and a summer red but the others are looking fine.
I still haven't paid my £165 bill for this year (the bills are on hold, I'm not refusing to pay) but I need to chase that up next week. I don't want to lose my allotment but I think Sunderland prices do not reflect the rest of the country.
I've taken a lot on this year, probably too much, am doing a mountain bike challenge with my colleagues next month and a 26 mile hike for MacMillan in July so am doing a lot of fitness which eats into my gardening time.
The garden is certainly looking lush after this week of splendid weather, it's turned a bit dull and drizzley for the weekend, of course😉
Hello , better to be busy , hope the mountain bike challenge & Macmillan walk goes well
Sorry to say but I think your rent is very high , I’m on another allotment web site and people often ask about rents and that the highest I’ve seen , you could get in touch with the National Allotment Ass . I pay £55 per yr and it is 30 by 130 ft , there is mains water but you pay separately for that £3 to fill a water cube

Keep training 🚴🏼♀️
Can I ask how they control the mains water at your site? How do they prevent people attaching hoses/taking as much as they like?
