Took some sedum up the lotment today, to make room for new stuff in the front garden.
Think someone has flytipped broken slabs over the fence, I'm certain they weren't there before anyway, I'm going to make a crazy paved area in front of the shack and try and mend this which I found in the core of the heap today:
A stench was coming off the heap today, no doubt invigorated by the sun and I found a bag of maggots. I decided a hedgehog wouldn't be hibernating in such a rancid mess and started pulling it apart.
This is the new tip pile:
There are many 'bags for life' containing stained tissue. I have two thoughts on this, portable latrine or Jeyes fluid trap for something. Any offers? ?
I thought I'd make a woodpile but unless I can break it up I might tip some of this too:
I pulled two trees off the heap and chucked them on the bank at the back, partly for wildlifey reasons, partly to hide the half buried junk on the bank. Somehow the heap is still nearly 5' high☹️
I have just read all the posts on this thread and am feeling so inspired! My goodness you've worked so hard! Your enthusiasm is brilliant. I was feeling rather flat this evening with the 'mountain' of work I have to do in the back garden but your posts have been a joy to read. Looking forward to reading more.
Like Copperdog , I have just caught up with these posts. I have been an allotmenteer since I was a child & it is always great to see when someone new discovers the joy of allotments. You have obviously worked very hard, and at the right time, too many wait till Easter go mad out their back out & don't come back! It is often a good idea to concentrate on part of the plot in the first year & cover any parts you can't do with Mulch sheet to suppress weeds. I think in one post you mentioned getting a petrol Mower. Honda mowers are great but relatively expensive there are others almost or just as good for a lot less, unless you can use the mower at home as well I would not go for anything too posh. You might like to consider a strimmer instead especially with that bank at the back! Just a thought!
Hi Victoria, I have enjoyed reading your posts - takes me back to when I have done similar. Just a suggestion - you can get clear corrugated plastic for roofing which would allow you to use your shed for growing seeds etc. I don't expect there's a lot of difference in price.
Victoria Sponge great lot of pictures good find with the bench in the pile, not sure about the tissues, good if you can make use of the fly tipping bits, that pile is still really big but smaller than it was to start with
Are you allowed to have a fire? would help get rid of some of the rubbish wood
Been digging bit of my plot that I have not got to before and found lots of bits of metal, put up bird boxes today
Hi Iain and EB, many thanks for your posts I haven't decided what kind of mower to get and I think I will put any plans on hold for now due to an incident that happened today.
I found packaging for a timber delivery in the middle of the heap today and the delivery was for one of the other plot holders, one who talks to me all the time and suggested I burn the heap. This confirms to me that at least some of the rubbish belonged to him. I couldn't control myself today, I was that angry and I told him I'd found out who had flytipped the rubbish and that I was going to report it to the council and the police. I have no idea as to the character of this individual and whether I will find my plot trashed tomorrow.
In addition someone has twice now thrown broken slabs and rubble over the fence and have smashed a plastic bucket I left out. I don't want to connect my second butt now as I'm concerned it could get hit by the rubble. I thought the incident might be a one off last week but since it has happened again, it could reoccur if someone is disposing of their waste bit by bit.
Does anyone have any advice? I'm very demoralised by this, it's one thing using my time and money to dispose of someone else's waste but I was led to believe it belonged to the previous tenant which is clearly not true.
Victoria, that is sickening after all the hard graft you have already put in. I hope you have reported the dumping of the rubbish to whoever is responsible for the allotments

Thanks Copperdog, what a nice thing to say? It's a treat to know people are reading the thread and joining in?

I haven't reported it yet Joyce. I don't know how much agro it will cause...I might leave it for the weekend so I make the right decision.
Thanks for your support, even though I suspected other plot holders had abandoned their rubbish on my plot I'm quite upset by having it confirmed...
