I've just read back that you're in India Vishu. We had an apartment in Goa for many years and went there for 3 months every winter. We did a fair bit of travelling around India too.
I have to bow down to the experience that has been offered regarding India; my only (vicarious) experience was of the "Marigold Hotel" variety. I have never wanted to visit what I thought of as a hot, dusty and crowded place.
I would like three banana pups for Christmas. I'll keep them in my basement, plant each in a huge pot in the spring and in the fall I will strap them to my dollie and wheel them into the house for the winter. Actually one pup would be quite enough.
Not in my province but they can get them to fruit on the other side of the Rocky Mountains along the southern British Columbian coast.
I just want one for the look of the tree, in the hot, hot, hot corner, next to my greenhouse, where I hang out on the summer evenings drinking wine and listening to the blues.
Vishu: Thank you for your geography education. Very interesting. A land of diversity minus tundra .. Here in Essex, we don't even have hilly area, apart from a bit of Denby!
Essex ain't that bad.......... From what I have read, nothing beats summer in UK. It is supposed to have the greenest grass in the world...... Hope to visit someday

'Marigold Hotel' movies were all shot in cities of Rajasthan, particularly in Udaipur and Jaipur(where I live). 2/3 of Rajasthan is covered by Thar desert, the rest by semi arid grassland and forest......salt marshes, chalk pits and dry hills dot the entire landscape, so there is quiet a bit of dust, but nowhere as much as in the movies........it was overly dramatized........and autumn, winters and spring is a good time to visit...... The weather is pleasant at this time of the year.
I went to a nursery the day before yesterday to buy a quince for my Mother in laws christmas present. Oh that's a dangerous place, Three plants I want huh?
Well A quince (the last one just didn't take)
Some Hazelnuts
And a Hardy kiwi.
In reality any fruit tree other than a plum or a pear would be very greatfully recieved!
Yes, I do love my ferns - the more the merrier! The Fibrex catalogue is very addictive I'm afraid.
It's hard to narrow it down to 3 plants in my case, but I really like your idea aym. A nice bit of Christmas fun. I don't envy you creating that spreadsheet mind...

Athyrium filix-femina 'Frizelliae'
Athyrium filix-femina (Cruciate Group) 'Victoriae'
Polypodium cambricum 'Richard Kayse'
These 3 lovely ferns (from Fibrex Nurseries), would be my Christmas choice.
I've got 2 ferns in my garden, they just suddenly appeared. Also cowslips.
