Why thank you H-C The problem with the garden I have at the minute is that I private rent the house so I can't change the layout and make it how I want. I have a very thin border on the left hand side which is the side of the garden that receives full. I would love to dig up the path to make it deeper but my landlord might not appreciate that
However I will hopefully be buying in the near future and garden space is going to be high up on the list of must haves! That way I can have as much giant scabious as I want
I think the best thing to do is wait and see how tall the magenta geranium grows next year and then at least I narrow it down to a few
By the way how do you keep geraniums flowering? Will they just flower continuously without doing anything to them or do they have one flush of flowers and then stop, and then have to be cut back hard to the ground?
I read on a few websites to just cut down each flower spike and a few older leaves but then some say to cut back the whole plant hard and it will regrow and flower again?
If it's only 2 foot tall, which it appears to be, then Geranium 'Patricia' would be my guess, as others have said... I think it's one of the finest Geraniums you can get over a long season.
I also agree with Geranium x magnificum for the first one, which shouldn't be sneered at as it's a good Geranium given the right company. I used to grow it with roses as underplanting, nice with 'Iceberg', where it flowered late May to late June, about a month. Then cut back to ground where it will recover with nice foliage for rest of year. Some autumn colour as I recall. Mixes well with pink and white roses, Geum 'Lady Stratheden' and Spiraea 'Goldflame' whose burnished new foliage is in full flight when the Geranium blooms..
Here's one then, which even Hardy's haven't identified for me. I think I've got a new hybrid and it's a bit special, like 'Rozanne' in habit and style but such a rich pink that I shall have to increase it.

Looking at the second one, I reckon it's G. psilostemon. That stature and the dark eye are distinctive.

It can be huge. It was the 2 foot tall bit that steered me away from psilostemon. Lovely plant, I agree.
