It looks very much like one I used to have in my old garden but never knew the name. As the flowers got older they almost seemed to become fluorescent. I'd be very interested in the answer too graigh.
Life's tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late.
well it was given to me by a friend and she also didn't know the name.
In answer to your questions nutcutlet... I'm not too sure if it's evergreen as this is the first winter it will have had with me but I cut it back a couple of weeks back and the leaves looked as good as in spring and they didn't change colour. It flowered I think in May and it was a very brief flowering and it was only the once!
I also have another one I need identifying too. This geranium was given to me by the same person and again its the first year it has been in my garden.
We must have the same one Muddle up. I noticed how the petals make it look more round and how they overlap each other too is quite different to others ive seen! I am going to give it another year however the flowering was so brief it was hardly worth it even with such a lovely colour. I cut back the flowers hoping for a second flush but I got nothing.

It looks a little like one of the Geranium sanguineum family but I'm not sure which one.

not a sanguineum, the leaves are wrong
It may not be anything definite, they're so promiscuous
A photo of it flowering without the hand would be good to show how it looks in the garden.
Is it evergreen or does it die back in winter?
Does it colour up in autumn?
When did it flower? early or late spring.
Was it just the one crop of flowers or were there some through the season?
In the sticks near Peterborough
Looks like Johnson's Blue.
You may even have your very own hybrid!
My Johnson's Blue earlier this yr -

Other than that I don't know anymore about it
Yours looks lovely Pete. However I think my leaves look a little different to yours.
Actually I do remember them being a tiny bit furry?
