Haha its ok M-U :-) I have been doing some searching on google and just when I think I have found the one, I find another one that looks like it! I may never find the answer image

the second one could just possibly be a G. maculatum or cultivar but I'm not putting any money on that.image

    re the first one

there's an old hybrid called Geranium x magnificum that might be the one. Flowers once, not for long,

There was some of that here when we came, great mounds of it, few flowers but, again brief, late summer leaf colour. Sterile I think, there were never any babies.

  • I think the blue one might be G.Magnificum; the magenta one has a flower similar to G. Psilostemon, but there are several similar culltivars, most of which are somewhat smaller. Psilostemon makes for a hefty plant, but wonderful in flower and colours up quite well in autumn.

Funny you should say that nutcutlet. Just as I read your reply about it possibly being magnificum I was on another website reading about the exact same one! So maybe it could be this one and I have to say it does really look like it! But like you said it flowers for literally a few weeks and then nothing else So I wil see what next year brings for this plant and if it doesn't perform then it's out in affraid :)

In regards to the other one being maculatum, I just had a look on google but the flowers are a pale pink whereas mine are quite a strong magenta. I did however find one called Geranium Patricia 'Brempat' which looks very similar! The one I have seemed to grow to around 2 foot and the leaves were quite large.

my x magnificum didn't flower for a few weeks, much less than that.

I think you're right about maculatum.

Things that are being given away in clumps are usually something you might regret later image

and rarely a named variety. Except x magnificum image

Your right Muddle-up. It does very much look like that one too. Judging from how similar magnificum and platypetalum are I don't think it's going to be possible to pin point the exact one image

platypetalum is a species and will seed, x magnificum won't, It doesn't make impenetrable mounds like magnificum and is far less often grown

I think your right Nutcutlet, although it's lovely that people offer me clumps of things, they can never tell me exactly what it is. So I will stick to buying from reputable sellers unless people can tell me what they are offering :)

I would actually still like to get G. Rozanne, which could actually take the place of this rogue magnificum! I don't suppose anyone has any pieces going spare at all? or am I being cheeky? image I wouldn't mind paying postage :-)

    only 400 MU? image

There's pages of them in Plantfinder, I've never counted them though.

There's the difference with the desirable Craig. There's only a little bit of Rozanne in my garden, it's never grown to dividing size. Maybe I should look after it better, image

Haha I agree! Maybe I should ask the person who gave me the plant if she has any Rozanne rather than the big clump of undesirable magnificum, which she probably has huge mounds of image
