Oh GD I love it, it looks FANTASTIC ???

I bet you can not wait to get planting!  have you made plans or go crazy like I probably would end up doing image

    Are you having fish?

  • Thanks. I must say it was worth getting MEN in to finish off the landscaping - they lifted and wheeled along far more stone than I could ever manage - they worked extremely well together - no phones - no swearing - no radio - short breaks morning and aft. they were a real credit to their gardening firm.

No fish Beaus mum - although I found the tiniest of fish in the filter yesterday which I promptly put back into the pool - not sure what it was, but it was alive!  I have been buying plants each time I visited the GC over the past few months, and also grown a few myself, so I have plenty to get going with.  I will have to wait until May for the lilies to arrive.

I haven't been around for a while GD - and have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the progress you have made - incredible!  Good to read you had reliable men to get the job done to your satisfaction.  Credit where credit is due.  From memory we both started out ponds at a similar time and I truly envy that you are at the 'planting' stage now.  My wee pond is a mere fraction the size of yours and hopefully in a few weeks I'll be equally as pleased as you are.

Fantastic GD!  I see you have the perfect position for the bench ( and also the French doors for the less suitable days)  all ready for viewing! image

Sometimes you get little sticklebacks coming in with plants as eggs  - we had some in the garden round the corner which arrived that way. They don't do much harm - and shouldn't be an issue in a pond that size.

Looking forward to seeing all the planting going in. You must be thrilled with it  image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Angie, nice to have you back, and yes I am sure you will be pleased with your pond once finished.  Our project did seem to drag on for ages and left me feeling a bit despondent at times, mainly through lack of energy on my part. However it is great to see and hear the water flowing.

I love sticklebacks - so I will keep an eye out for them Fairy. It's mypex day tomorrow - and if time a bit of planting - can't wait!

  • No camera at the mo, so I haven't been able to photograph the progress made.  It is just me now - the men have moved in to the veg. patch now, better late than never - gosh don't they gossip! Not a lot of progress down there! I have been planting a few lovely pond border plants each day and I should be finished some time next week.  The actual pond plants will be arriving in a couple of weeks time.

Just one problem - we noticed mosquitoes today - hundreds of them skimming over the pond water and plenty of lava hatching too.  I think we are in for an itchy summer - does anyone else have this problem with their ponds in summer?

At last the new pond plants, marginals, oxygenators and 2 lilies arrived yesterday and the men donned wellies to place them accordingly once I had transferred the plants into bigger baskets.  The pond is beginning to look halfway presentable now..

We need to sort an edging for the paths to cover the mypex we laid down a few weeks ago.  I am feeling a bit off today, so trying to keep away from any physical work......

In the meantime I have enjoyed watching blackbird, robin and pigeon having a bath in the waterfall.

Still far too many mosquitoes hatching in the pond, but we hope the plants and birds will help to keep them down.

Looking really good GD, well doneimage

Maybe you'll get a nice display of bats swooping over your pond on an evening hoovering up insects attracted to the water.

Photos when the camera comes back from the shop which hopefully won't be much longer.

We have bats Victoria - although I don't often venture out at night, there has been bats around here for many years - I remember them when I was a child and we weren't too keen on them then, but I love seeing them now.

A female and male duck seem to be taking a liking of our pond - on the one hand we don't want them, but pond owners have told us that they do a wonderful job of keeping algae under control.
