Fairy, council own the land at the back so will have to deal with landslip problem. It will no doubt drag on for months although they have brought in a specialist company to assess the situation.
Lovely photos again, @Fairygirl - thank you! Just back from the new house in County Clare, where there are gentle hills rather than mountains. It's pretty though.
@Joyce21 - hope your rain stops soon, and you can get the garage problem sorted. xx
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Hi @Liriodendron - hope it's going well in the new house. Looking forward to more photos of the area Will you get a chance to do some of the hills too? Glad you enjoyed the pix. I was in The Cairngorms on Monday, and had a grand day, so I'll do some of those later.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

We're not actually moving until October 23rd, @Fairygirl; we were over there to receive the keys, de-flea the house (the previous owners have a dog who keeps scratching, so I wasn't surprised when I got bitten), scrub floors and do some decorating. We're determined to do some of the hills before hubby gets too decrepit... and also have plans for a trip into Co.Kerry where it's a bit more mountainous. Some of the mountains have names to rival those in Scotland... "MacGillycuddy's Reeks", for instance. Nearer us are Cashlaundrumlahan and Gortnamearacaun... have to take a deep breath before attempting to pronounce some of them. However, there's no "right to roam" in Ireland so some of these places are out of bounds for walkers.

I remember my Mum talking about MacG's Reeks when I was a child [ I have some Irish blood on her side from back in the 'mists of time' ] but I'm not sure she ever elaborated - or perhaps I just wasn't interested at the time. Those are nearly as bad as Gaelic names, either that or Stevie Wonder was in charge of naming them. It's an old joke, but hey... Sorry - I knew you were only there to renovate/decorate, but I didnt know your proper move in date. All very exciting, as long as the fleas are well gone!

I guess some of the mountain and place names in Ireland are just transliterations of the Irish Gaelic. It's true of the place names too, so for instance Tralee is just the anglicised version of Tra Li (supposed to have accents but my computer's a bit basic!). I might try to learn Irish, but it's very complicated...
