Who's visiting your bird feeders?

  • Today's visitors. I've seen loads in London but it's the first time we've had them on our feeders here.

  • Did those birds come back with your pirates? How do they handle a cold winter?
  • I haven't seen them again and don't know if they would survive the winter here. The ones in the London parks seem to do ok.
  • They're great looking birds for sure.
  • One of the few White Breasted Nuthatches that have decided, after two years, that it will take the seed from my hand.

Had a bit of a Two Ronnies moment this morning after seeing the first thrush of the year return to the feeders. I was upstairs brushing my teeth and my wife shouted up that we had toothbrushes :/ I rinsed my mouth ready to tell her to stop pointing out the obvious when I realised she was shouting two thrushes...

So yeah the thrushes are back and we had three bullfinches as well this morning fighting through the 30-odd sparrows for a go on the feeder. I've been watching the chaffinches carefully but no sign of any bramblings lurking among them yet.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
  • I'm going to google the birds you mentioned. I'm unfamiliar with most of the birds in your UK.
I'm very pleased that I have a flock of partridges visiting my yard again. I feared the coyotes had destroyed the population on the hill here. They have been absent for a few years but they are back. Once winter really sets in I should be able to get some good pics of them. Great birds to have in the yard, when it blizzards they just scratch a snow nest and let the snowfall bury them.

Great flocks of starlings here! Who said they were in decline? 😀

Just the usual other birds, robins, bullfinches, woodpeckers, pheasants, sparrows and other members of their family, haven’t  seen our nuthatches yet.

  • I think we should call you the bird man Johnny canoe, you certainly have a way with them, which most of us would envy.  What beautiful markings these little woodpeckers have.
