Lovely photos @Fairygirl. I seem to get mostly goldfinches feeding but they are so quarrelsome with each other. I think they spend more time arguing in the air than they spend on the feeders. The sparrows don't get a look in. I have a small tray on one feeder which the robin could access if he could find room. Glad you've got the goldies back in your garden.
Where there's a Squirrel theres a way, would you believe it . They live across the road it's the first time in 10 years they have ventured across to the feeder for the birds. We've seen a Fox once a Pheasant (can't work out what it was doing around S.E Wales) now we would really really like to have a Hedgehog sometime snooping around, you never know do you.
It's why I have a cage, valleys girl. Squirrel can't get in any more to eat the food You must have some suitable terrain/habitat if the pheasants are there
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Have a variety of birds at the feeders including a Carrion Crow, Magpie , Wood Pigeon, Collared Doves, Goldfinches, Tit's, House Sparrows, a Pied Wagtail, and the other day a Siskin
How about this one. Not actually on the bird table but very close. Sorry about the poor quality, it was taken through a wet wind on the rain in a hurry.
You always post the most amazing pictures Johnny canoe - I really don't know how you manage to coax them to feed from your hand - our birds fly away if we are closer than a few metres - although the robin is the most tame of them all. Perhaps we don't have the patience to stand and wait for them to become tame enough to do this - we are always in a hurry to do the next thing.
Hello Guernsey Donkey2, They don't eat from my hand in my yard either. Same as you I have other things to do and then the bird feeders are always full of seed so they are use to using them. I can always tell when a shy bird is taking from my hand for the first time, they always do several test runs and then they land very softly and take off quick.lol
The first time Mr. Woodpecker fed from my hand he surprised me with his very bold and heavy landing, then he just stood there in the middle of my hand waiting to see what I might do. Now he dive bombs me when I'm coming into the park and perches on my head or shoulder waiting for me to get the suet block out of my seed bag for him.
