Good pictures Fairygirl, Thrush are quite rare here now, we are lucky to see one a week. We have holly and pyracantha berries but even the blackbirds prefer the bird table now, oh dear what have we done!
Yes - they're quite easy to clean out V.Gardener. Not sure if I've said this here or on another thread, but I just soak mine in a bucket, then give them a going over with hot soapy water, using one of those baby bottle brushes to get right down inside the tube.
They're definitely youngsters GD [the thrushes] and they've been poking around in the back garden near the food on the ground, so I hope they stay
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
I'd feel upset to see this but we have to accept that this is part of nature - survival of the fittest etc. At least goldfinches usually breed twice a year with 5 or 6 chicks surviving to early adulthood and think of all the tasty insects the finches eat during their life time.
Was washing dishes today at the kitchen window and noticed a sparrowhawk flying in towards my feeders / birdtable.
He caught a goldfinch effortlessly with his talons and flew away with the finch visible in his feet.
Unsure how I was supposed to feel about that! But it was certainly an impressive sight.
I've seen one with a blue tit on our wall close by the conservatory, always thought that their would only go for sparrows, because that's what they're called. It's upsetting to see such a thing, even though we know that it happens.
Hi fellow bird lovers (and feeders)! Sparrows having a great time at the grease balls on my crab apple tree. Shy blue tits only come when the boisterous sparrows have flown away.
Beautiful photos @Papi Jo. Love the "curly" bird feeder which has plenty of room for the birds to perch on. Not seen one of those before and had no idea that was what a crab apple tree looked like! Never seen one of those before either! Must lead a very sheltered life...
